I've noticed a few posts of models that were built back in the first golden age, here's a T'Bird I picked up recently from eBay
to be honest I wasn't expecting much as it had been as it had been an $8.99 buy it now for about 3 weeks. I'd figured if it was half decent someone would have already snagged it. When I checked the following month it was now asking $5 BIN so I hit the button thinking at worst it would be a parts car for my growing squarebird resto/wrecking yard.
So what did I get? An AMT annual with a moulded in and painted front grille and this neat extended rear end
Lowered to the ground, long cruiser skirts (right across where the door line used to be), lakes pipes (that cut across the back wheel) and all the panel lines filled in with putty or an ultra thick coating of brushed on paint.
A stock rear bumper, minus the tailights, is crudely shoved into the rear end it's not even fixed in place!
It was only when I started comparing it with a slightly more stock '59 hardtop that I noticed the fins have been removed!
and so have the moulded spear pointed styling lines along the doors.
Frenched headlights? They've certainly been moved further into the bodywork and it appears the original surrounds have been cut out and re-shaped
Check out the crudely hacked about chassis
the exhaust mufflers on rear corners are bent up into the trunk! And it's all glued together cos the areas with the screw holes are gone.
Future plans are to find some suitable tailights, give a damn good clean, glue on the loose bits and... then leave it alone.
I'd be interested to know if any that extended rear end was included in either the '59 or '60 kits as it looks too good to be scratchbuilt and appears to be plastic.
Gotta love this old kustom history. ;D
