Thanks for the comments, folks! Bill, thanks, and I don't know of anyone re-popping the tall Lincoln or Chrysler wheels/tires in resin. Who knows, I might give it a shot myself..this project has been stalled out (again!) but will hopefully be moving again soon. Jimmy Flintstone offers a chopped '30; I'm pretty sure there's a recent build on this forum using one of those bodies. It's a heavier chop than this build has.

Tiny update... Filled the gaps in the wheel using CA/baking soda and sprayed some primer. It turns out that the Revell wheel center was slightly off-center in the Lincoln part, like maybe 1/2mm. It's good enough for this build, but not good enough to cast in resin, so looks like I'll have to make another.

Really fine build here, Chris! Love the stance and ride height on your first mockup though the second isn't too shabby either (could see that one in kind of a '60s style!) Thanks also for the guide to wheel/tire options. That'll come in handy. Re. the beltline moldings on this kit, here are a couple shots of my unfinished AV8 with that work done. The white pieces are styrene and the wider grey molding was shaped from thin ABS Plastruct (which seems to carve better for applications like this.) The styrene body moldings are half-round. The driprails are square stock. The narrow beads up the back of the roof are stretched sprue.

Hey, thanks John! That's a really, really useful guide. Looks like I need to go shopping...I have some 1.5mm 1/2 round, but that lower side bead is 1mm. It sure would be nice if there was an "A" coupe kit out there with less body issues...especially considering how popular they are these days! Awesome Av8, by the way. I dig the chromed front 'bones. *EDIT* Found some .040 round in the stash, huzzah! Scraped it down into 1/2 round and it's off to the races.

Small update...got the flattened firewall filled and smoothed. Also added some plastic to the edges of the cowl to remove the gap between cowl and firewall at the bottom. This will be shaved back later, when the floor/toeboard get built. For exhaust, I'm experimenting. Hoping to make something that looks like '36 driveshaft pipes that dump out under the rails.

Another small update... Finally got the engine fitting better, had to move the engine mounts forward and shave the water pump and fan mount a bit. The grille shell was hollowed out so the radiator can sit deeper in it. The Revell '32 5w interior has been modified to fit...and front suspension is more resolved now with the '31 I-beam, scratchbuilt spindles and radius rods (still WIP, need to be thinned), and new spring-behind setup. The headlights are from the '40 "Woody" RIDES edition AMT panel delivery. Freaky weird kit, but some good parts in it. I dig the lights because they're longer than the '30-'32 parts. Another possibility is the Guide headlights from the Revell '30 Touring. Not sure yet if they'll be mounted straight to the grille shell, or on stands. I'm trying to decide if it should have frog-mouth scoops (modified resin from The Parts Box shown). If so, the hood won't fit, and I kinda like the full-hood look.

Man, you could teach a snail to build kits and it'd still beat me... Anyway, I experienced something annoying today while trying to get some work done on this project. Here is is in pictorial form: Never really crossed my mind that grabbing "black" because there was no "white" on the shelf would give me a completely different product (the box is the same, but for the white label). Now I know. So...if anyone's in the market for spaghetti axles and pancake-wheels... Seriously, what am I going to do with this stuff? Also, does anyone know what thinner to use with Acrylic Enamel? I did some reading online and couldn't find anything conclusive. I have some "stone grey" in a rattle can, but it's too thick and needs to be decanted, thinned, and airbrushed on.

All right, I feel like an idiot now---the black resin _does_ seem to be hardening (so I guess it's not rubber after all). Still, that's more like a 6 hour de-mold than the 15min it should be. I can only conclude that the resin wasn't mixed properly. Weird.

Despite the difficulties with getting the resin to behave, I got a few decent wheels out of it. So that's good. I'm hoping to use a couple of the miscasts, with the centers cut out, for the wheel backs, instead of using kit Lincoln parts. I had an acute case of '40 X-member envy, and all I had was a butchered '37 from the Revell truck. So that got patched up, drilled, and installed, with a scratchbuilt '40-ish pedal assembly. Gas tank was chopped out, and new crossmember built in the rear. The rear wishbones had to be moved to clear the X-member, and new front mounts built. Front wishbones are probably getting 30s style tie rod ends. Made some drilled trunk hinges instead of plain bent wire. Trunk also now has an inner panel.

You are doing great work on this build, the work on the body and frame is outstanding. Thanks for posting the tyre info, proves an old dog can learn new tricks, in my over fifty years of building Model Cars, I never thought of using those wheels and Tyres!

Hi Joe--Thanks for your interest! This build is still sittin', looking much like it did the last time I updated.
I was kind of waiting to get something significant done, so I could post the update with a posthumous thank-you to Tom for being so positive. This build will get finished...eventually! Hard to believe it's been so long since I started it...2 years maybe? Yeesh.
I need to get the steering figured out, build the beltline moldings (did it once and they were not quite right, pulled them of again) and decide on color, and then it's pretty much ready to go.
