A few things collided and I had to draw...I was looking at some old photos of dry lakes cars and marveling at how ungainly and ugly many of them were. Absolutely not the slick hot rods that people try to build today, more like "try anything to go fast". Was also looking at the "Spirit of St. Louis" plane and how cool it is with the polished nose and no windscreen. So...here's an 'A' Tudor with something massive under the hood. Exactly what, I'm not sure. Some kind of mirror setup in the top of the grille, connected to a periscope so the driver can see. Fanciful, yes, but crazier things were done. So...does anyone know of any excessively tall but powerful engines? Aircraft? Tugboat?

Thats one of the craziest things Ive seen. I dig it! As for aero engines, there is the Cirrus O.S. IL-300. Look how tall it is. Maybe for more power, the Mercedes D-111 6 cylinder And then theres the Junko Jumo 210. Cl out the exhaust ports on the bottom of the engine.

Haha, awesome, thanks!. I just spent almost an hour looking for the same kind of thing The pre-war airship engines are really, really cool. *EDIT* ok, figured out that in order to get that kind of height, an opposed-piston engine would fit the bill, something like the Junkers Jumo 205. Now to see if there's a more accessible non-German equivalent...

man, that 205 would really fill up that engine compartment!

A quick one from today, just getting a rough idea down. Kind of show-rod territory, though...crank-driven blower, engine set back, and rockin' spoked wheels machined from aluminum and painted to look like originals. Kinda like the "Little Boy" rod, but less ratty.

Who knows! It has Hot Wheels proportions right now. A real build would probably be more restrained. If I build it out of the AMT '25 that inspired it, I'll have to use the stock wheels, but might have some larger tires to increase the diameter of the rears. Of course, skinny little tires like that would be silly with a blown hemi. But hey, it's art.

Glenn-I might give that a shot. Ideally, the windshield would be half that height, but I'm not sure how much it can be cut down before it becomes useless for wind protection! Driver sits pretty high in these things...no wonder some T drivers wear goggles. Your second take looks great...I've ridden in more than my share of buckets, and even those full height windshields don't do a lot of good, so yeah, why not at least make it look cool. I'm with you on that! Great drawings Chris, my compliments!

They'd probably end up scaling out somewhere in the 30-36" range, though.

Thanks folks! I have some 1/24 classic car tires (Monogram, probably). They're comically huge when mocked up with the tiny '25 body. They're almost as tall as the body itself! If I start a build with 36" tires here, it'll get axed before I can blink, lol.
