So I saw a thread on the HAMB featuring a photo of a rusty ol' attempt at a sports-rod. I think it's probably a genuine '50s attempt, and was never finished. I read all the bitchy "rats suck, what a turd" comments and thought I'd do up a sketch, and then share it with the more enlightened and constructive folks here. I didn't change it much...new wheels, a bit of a chop, and a custom nerf bar with overriders attached to the frame stubs to hide them a bit.

Dang thats nice. The overriders at the frame stubs is a great idea, I would never have thought of that, very creative!

Thanks guys! I had fun with that one. I've been noticing lots of ugly frame rails in old photos of 50s rods, and sometimes custom covers or nerf bars were built to hide them. Works for me!

Well I'm tickled pink. People have started coming 'round and posting some photoshops on the HAMB of what that car could look like, and I'll be darned--the exact color combo I chose has been proposed, and many of the same body mods. Great minds think alike. I hope it's OK to link here: www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=809156&page=8

Some real nice drawings Chris. The tall engined sedan reminds me of the early 1900's Grand Prix cars. They where restricted to bore size and number of cylinders (4 from memory), so they had extremely long strokes to get huge capacities. I think Fiat had the largest at 28 or 29 litres, I'll need to dig out my refernces to check. The driver and riding mechanic had to look down each side of the hood the engine was that tall.

Steve: Thanks If you're referring to the FIAT S76, yes, it's preposterously huge! It still looks proportionate, though. The true scale of the thing only becomes clear when the driver is sitting in it. I made a little mockup a while back with a Cadillac V16 in a Revell '31 Tudor, but it's not a tall enough engine to warrant the big hood.

Your rendering is excellent Chris. I still think you should post it in that thread on the HAMB, there are some open minded people in that thread, who would appreciate it, ignore the ones that lack the imagination to appreciate an out of the box look for a hot rod.

Haha, thanks David. That thread has certainly improved since I first saw it I might join the HAMB at some point, but probably not until I have more to contribute, like more art, or an on-topic vehicle.

Wow, it's been a while. Here's something from a couple months ago. It was a test-run of a little free program called Microsoft GIF Maker. Its based on renders from a 3D model, processed in photoshop. If it doesn't start playing right away, just give it a moment to load.
