I've been working on this since I got it from Ed some weeks ago while also working on my 49 Ford Custom. I'm sure you can understand why I've gotten into it so quickly because of the haunting beauty of the car itself. The 2 pictures below were 2 of the ones Ed had originally sent me. This was an old Revell glue bomb that was Ed's Father's master for the Fury kit he sold in resin. I'll post more pictures later. But for now, I suggest you guys go get a napkin to wipe the drool from your mouths as you look at the pictures. Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiThanks for checking in and stay tuned for more. Gary

Late-stage Exner Excess, his idea of restraint in a middle-class sedan post-'61 Chrysler Imperial. Always loved them for that. They sure didn't look like anything else on the road...
They make great drag cars because of their looks and because the two-door body responds well to looking stripped-down for competition.
Looking forward to more, more, more...

Alright, where to begin? First picture...The sedan window post was put in place by Ed's Dad. The first thing I did was to remove all the "Fury" badging, all of which you can't see in this picture anyway. I think next I got rid of all the side body trim, the front fender trim was again "Fury" specific. I replaced the trim with pieces I made from .048 round rod shaved down to about .025. I removed the greenhouse Fury roof trim that ran from front to back by the driprail, then dropped down behind the quarter windows. Next was to modify the trim at the bottom of the quarter window, again to get rid of anything Fury. Right now I've got about a 95% Savoy. This body had 2 taillight holes and the cheapest buyers didn't even spend the couple of bucks for backup lights so I eliminated the 2 inner holes. The 62 Revell chassis was not very good at all but I had a JoHan 63 chassis, so I did some crude modifications to make it work underneath the body. The Revell firewall was totally bad so I removed everything that protruded from it and glued the JoHan firewall to it after thinning that as much as I could. The radiator is also from the 63 kit. The upper windshield had a "Vee" at the center that was wrong so I sanded a gentle curve in it's place and replaced the trim piece. Do love seeing these old Jo-Hans pulled out and improved, there's a lot of potential once you remove the few inherant errors most of them seem to have.
Guess you're going Super Stock with this one?

Only 2 years? How time flies. Even though I was blowing off some steam in general B.S. the other day I have been painting some things. I was going for a pure, original type 62 SuperStock with this but it frankly was just boring. Competition Orange became my color choice and it actually turned out nice and flat (in texture too). No problem with that, I'm gonna put on some decals anyway. So after looking at it in orange it still looked boring. Then I thought about some silver stripes on it for some flash. They really work for me! Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiAll the chrome parts are at Little Motor Kar Co. being plated. Gary

Cool! It's looking good. The stripes give it a stock-car vibe.
I always thought these cars were damn ugly. Then...they grew on me! An acquired taste I suppose...but it's funny that so many others have acquired that taste that kits and 1:1 examples both sell for surprisingly high amounts. Lots of people out there with a fondness for odd ducks.
I like the Plymouth more than the Dodge, because of the rear wheel arch design. I like the odd 4-eyed Dodge grille better.
I wonder what one of these would look like with rectangular Cibie headlights instead of the big round pie-plates?

This is one of my favorite Mopar body styles so I'm really happy to see one built in smaller scale too. Especially as these are not very common models anymore. You're doing a great work with it. The modification from a Fury to Savoy is really good idea. I'll be watching to see how it turns out.
