Great ideas! I've been planning on building a few myself Recently I scored a free Star Wars kit that has a vaguely sun-like display base, too small for a model car but I might be able to incorporate it into a '50s atomic-age display. I'm waiting on a Shapeways shipment that should include a panel of the breeze-blocks that I modeled...should make a cool backdrop/diorama element. I'm planning to build some little display lights too...I went out looking for small spheres (of any kind) recently and found some at the church thrift store (maybe they were game pieces?) They're about the correct size to replicate the globe floor spotlights that appear in some of the '60s car show photos on Ed's recent thread! I'm hoping I can drill the bottoms to install small LEDs or grain-of-wheat bulbs (first I have to find some bulbs though). I wish once ubiquitous craft supplies like map pins and cigar boxes were still easy to find. These days, they're probably specialty items!
