I wasn't intending to start building this yet, or even really buying it yet. I stopped in my LHS last week, and they had just received these in, so I grabbed one. First thing I noticed is that the box is heavier than expected. That's because it's jammed packed full of parts.
As I laid the parts on my bench the wheels started turning. First, I started mocking up a modern street machine. But I couldn't find a set of wheels and tires I liked, without having to perform massive frame mods. Then I tried a 70's street machine with slotted mags and CB radio. But, being a child of the 80's, I'm not real familiar with this era, so it just didn't hold my interest.
I have a narrow window of time to get this done because I want to clear my bench as soon as I get copies of the 32 RPU body I mastered for Ed. So, I'm trying to keep this build uncomplicated. Enter, the gasser idea. Would someone take a brand new 66 pickup and turn it into a gasser back then? probably not. But, this hobby is about fun and I'm having fun with this. So, here it is.
Wheels and tires, front and rear are from the modern tool Revell Mazmanian Willys. Out back, the ride height is straight out of the box. Up front, I pulled an axle out of the parts box, I think it's from a Revell 37 Ford pickup. I mounted it to leaf springs from my parts box as well. The rear axle does look like it needs to be moved back a couple millimeters.
interior will be mostly stock, but I'm thinking of adding in a set of Drag City Castings diamond tuft seats. What would be a good shifter to stick in here?
I have the parts from a Revell parts pack 427 Ford soaking in CSC to remove the chrome, pretty sure I'm going to use this as the powerplant. I went diving through my parts box and these are the ladder bars I found. I'll try fitting them up later today.
