So many of the cars I love would be impractical even if I could afford them I love at least a few cars out of every decade, except the 70s. I have a huge soft spot for mid-80s K5 Chevy blazers. Even mid-80s Malibus are looking good now And they can be had for a couple grand. ... Anyway, I went to a car show on Saturday, one of the few in my area each year. Not many traditional rides at all, but a killer turnout. There must have been 1000+ cars. Here are a few artsy-fartsy shots: Here was probably the only truly traditional-style hot rod out of all those cars: And here's a dad explaining to his kids how a supercharger works: "It sucks in tons of air and mixes it up with the gas real good and CRAMS it into the engine!" Sounds about right

Well, I guess I'm stuck with 50s cars since I have one and don't plan on replacing it with anything else. I'm getting too old and lazy to work on 1:1 cars anymore. Spotted this nice little "A" for sale a couple weeks ago, but I don't have $27,000 laying around. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Great shots as always, Chris...and that little rpu is killer!
What do you have, Joseph? If you've shown us before forgive me.

Thats A is pretty nice, Joseph, but what baffles me is that you actually saw a hot rod in the bay area! It seems all thats left in Fremont are ratty imports and donks.

Lots of pretty nice ones still running around on this side of the bay. But with winter coming most of them will probably soon be going into hibernation 'til spring.

Went for a walk and visited the F250 in the woods again. The tarp has slipped off, so I can see more of the front end. It has a V8! There is a faded sticker on the front of the camper indicating that it is a Travel Queen; I can only find a couple small photos of similar campers online, but it looks like it might be a '58 or thereabouts. I wish I had the resources to be able to buy this and fix it up :/ It's a neat little piece of history.

Just spent some time tweaking a piece I started last year and never got back to. I have this pipe dream of a reboot of the 90s "Street Rod" video game, or something in that vein with traditional rods and customs. I can't see a game like this ever getting made, as the audience is too small (imagine a venn diagram of "people who play video games/people who care specifically about traditional-style hotrods and customs). And an image from last year... Also, I've updated the 3D '30 Ford model: And here's a video where I mess the car up a bit in Grand Theft Auto. Just checkin' to make sure everything works.

That's just plain awesome. I need me one of those in GTA! Great work! I could also use the front fenders and grill out of that '55 f250, here's a pic of mine that could use em. IMG_20140905_232707_408 by , on Flickr Again great work on that coupe and the rest of your artwork for that matter!

here's a pic of mine that could use em. Thanks Jesse--your truck looks like a real project! I'm squinting pretty hard at it, and...is it a Mercury?? I'm pretty sure I've only ever seen those fenders (the ones with the wheel arch centered in the fender, instead of the heavy front overhang of the F100) on a Merc. Then again, I'm in Canada, so maybe the fenders we got on Merc trucks were also used on Fords. Either way, I don't think the fenders on the truck I photographed would fit yours! *EDIT* I see it clearly has the Ford badges on the sides. Huh. I need to do some research now

I need to do some research now Thanks, mine is quite the project. Mine is a 1955 F250 and was originally a six cylinder truck and my dad put a 312 y block in it when he got it. I think he blew it up in 1986 and it's been sitting since, I was born in 1984 lol. I've been slowly putting together the new 292 y block and will be digging the truck out and bringing it to my house this summer some time.

Rad. I was born the same year as you, haha. I've considered trying to come up with a figure to offer the guy, but if I bought it then I'd have to drag the truck out, and that would be a job and a half. Not to mention it's probably way beyond my abilities and funds to restore. I just love that it was a work truck from a ski hill, though. We'll see.

I always keep my eye open for old cars. I always dream of walking in the woods and finding something cool. A few days ago I found one within 50 feet of a road I've driven many times. Also found some wheels that I think might be 40s ford, and possibly some 30s wide-fives. The car looks like a '52 Chrysler, but I can't ID the trim level. It seems to combine features of '50-52 between the taillights, front indicator lights, and bumper overriders. Maybe a Canadian thing?? The vin tag is gone, along with most of the chrome and fittings, but some neat bits remain. The body panels are really straight and clean. The underside of the trunk still displays flawless blue paint. The outside of the car was repainted in a darker blue at some point. It was clearly parked in a field/lawn maybe 40-50 years ago, and the trees have grown up around it.

Finding those old cars from forests / barns / whatever is a lot of fun! That Chrysler looks like a cool find that looks like it could still be rebuilt. I found an abandoned '66 Ford STW yesterday also. Well, it was only the body and frame but absolutely something that would be possible to restore. I've found other cool cars as well, it's a lot of fun.
