I had this kit when it was brand new, and built it like that box art. Technically its a go as far as I am concerned, as it was issued in 1968 and reflects the building style back then. Although the box calls it a funny car, its more of a "highrider", what we called cars like this way back when. Perhaps some might have issue of it being too much a "street machine".

Tough call! It definitely has the late sixties'/early seventies' "Street Freak" vibe, but as far as actual gassers go, it seems that the majority of musclecar-bodied racers relied upon far more "advanced" technology than the kit contents (IIRC, the front leaf springs were modified from a trailer in another kit), I.E. the gasser option looks more like a caricature/mock-option than something you would actually see at the drag strip. On the other hand, the kit was issued within the permitted time-frame, and it definitely distinguishes itself from the average muscle car build, so I'm leaning towards allowing it...

I worked at a speed shop when I was a kid, and around '68 straight front axle street cars were not uncommon. The majority of these cars were tri-5 chevys, but a guy that worked at the shop had just moved from California and drove a '66 Chevy 2 with a straight axle under it (likely from Blair's Speed Shop). Rod & Custom even had a "high-rider of the month" page around that era.... I would say that that style would be appropriate for either a street or drag car.

I agree with Rich, In the mid-to-late 60s there was a street driven 56 Chevy sedan that had a straight axle under it. Is what made it stand out was the florescent orange frame and suspension under the front of the car. The car itself was a really ugly tan color. No front bumper or splash-pan, Nomad rear wheel openings. It belonged to a BARBER that raced it on weekends!! I located him several years ago only to find out he had sold the car to a guy in Minnesota and it became a Mud Runner. How sad for such a cool car.

I want that custom grill shown on the side art!
Oh, yeah...I think if the Posticta project fits here, that pretty much leaves the door open for a pre-70 'toony street freak pony car in my book. Not that I am anyone who has a say. lol. But do it up and have fun with it...if it gets the kybosh send me some pics direct!

By the way, you may wanna save that Man-A-Fre 4X2bbl setup for some special project - Short of modifying the Rochester FI-manfold in Revell's old 1957 Chevy kit, it's pretty unique in kit form.

Well the decals and instructions were missing and apparently so was that intake. Damit that would've been a cool piece to have.

There was a straight axle Camaro posted here a couple years ago, so it should be ok.
