Heres my 30's Bugatti inspired Peterbilt in primer. I hope it qualifies..I think it does...its all pre 40s in theory and most of the parts are scratch built. My inspiration on the base model is an old Peterbilt from the 40s...not quite chain drive....but close! The Aero era of the 30s when they were recommissioning old steam locomotives with new aero styled body work is partially what inspired this build. Even though its not a car like many entries here, I wanted to share it and get some good feedback on how to proceed with a few details and get this baby finished!...its 1/32 scale. So, did I rationalize it enough? Heres a primer shot: No offense, but I have a feeling this will get deleted as it looks more modern/rat rod like then a traditional rod. That's just my opinion of course and welcome to the site!

The closest thing I've seen in historical photos to a hot rodded semi is a '34 Ford pickup stripped of it's bed, a fifth wheel attached and a second rear axle added, but it was still pickup based.

Yep. I think I have a fairly liberal view of what "traditional" means in relation to cars and trucks, but even I can't find any way to justify that truck as anything even remotely close to traditional.

Well...if you will hear me out on this...Its a semi through and through, using all stock semi wheels, body and frame. I have not added low pro tires or fancy chrome/aluminum wheels from any other die cast sources. The grille is stock modified as is the hood. (everything is chopped and channeled as it could be on a traditional hot rod) I know it looks different but trust me, the rat rod element will be gone very soon...I am NOT leaving it primer or in different stages of primer...
Do what you will, I understand if it does not fit in...but if I can learn from traditional modelling techniques its here...I may still have a long way to go....but you guys will inspire me to put more traditional touches on the model....
I want this to look a bit like a lowered Merc with a Bugatti paint scheme wrapped in a semi theme...How would you guys approach such a project? (I decided to stay away from wire wheels..just not my thing)
Ill abide by whatever works, I dont like to make waves!
thanks
JP

Sorry Jesse - I appreciate your enthusiasm and creativity, but despite the traditional styling cues, the concept of a "Delahaye'ified" Peterbilt Semi is simply too contemporary to fit the posting guidelines.
Don't let that scare you off, though - There's still tons of inspiration, helpful hints and tutorials to be found here...

It looks like you do great work and have a good imagination though and I hope you hangout here!

My latest project, it might be pushing the limits of TRaKabilty, but I think it just squeezes in; Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedThis is an AMT '69 Buick Riviera mild custom. I'm building it curbside so I might actually finish it. The only modifications to the body were to shave the door handles and emblems and then enhance the factory character lines using strip styrene and putty. I also spent quite a bit of time tightening the gaps between the bumpers and body, but looks like I have more work to on the gap between the hood and grill. The tires are AMT parts back narrow white walls and the wire wheels are from the Revell ‘32 Ford 5 window and have been narrowed to fit the AMT tires. I’m planning on purple candy over black for the paint. David

Tell ya what Jesse, even though the truck doesn't fit in here, I reckon that you have a bloody terrific attitude mate. You will fit it well around here. What else ya got mate.? In addition to all things trackable, I like building 50/70s trucks old style, but not good for this site. Cheers Rod

Here's some of mine. 1/32nd Arii '55 Toyota. Lowered, hub caps smoothed, removed split window dividers. Monogram ZZtop rod backdated with some bits from early iron series issue. Wheels & tyres from AMT. Amt '66 Mercury. Most trim removed & lowered. Johan '60 Desoto. Most trim removed & lowered. Revell '67 Dragon Lady Coronet. Been in white primer for about 10 years. Stalled because of bad decals and wrong gearbox for this car. AMT '57 Chev. Stalled because can't settle on interior. . Missed you at Ballarat this year Steve. Love the Toyota but they all look good.

Fresh primer on my '39 Chevy Sedan Delivery. Also got the frame painted semi-gloss black. I still have no idea where this one is going. Thinking perhaps a jalopy racer due to the lack of hood, fenders etc.

Kinda looks like we all need to get off our asses and get busy. Including me... My Parked Projects in Primer! My dad always told us we had heart and ass disease. That means you dont have the heart to get off your ass and do something.

This is my first attempt at a radical custom. I have chopped and sectioned the body. I set it aside while I figure out what mods to do next. I don't want to over do it.
