Partly because of this thread, I just snagged a Beatnik Bandit off the 'bay Not many people realize what a great parts source the Beatnik Bandit is! The blown Olds engine totally kicks ass and is one of the only games in town for a scale 4-71 blower. The other Ed Roth kit that's quickly becoming a go-to for me is the most recent issue of the Tweedy Pie.

Killer update! Glad to see this one back again. The ZZtop pipes look very natural and the injectors sorta...harmonize with the Riley heads, which is cool. I like the idea of the engine fitting under the hood without cutouts... Pretty crazy how much modification and clever parts-sourcing it requires to create something that looks this natural! Thanks for detailing every little step.

Yes, love all the chassis work, lots of detail to check out. I like the Hilborns and hood.

Great update, and clean workmanship. I love the details you're adding to the chassis, and the choice of injectors is perfect.

UPDATE:Made a headlight bar out of .040" and .060" rod and mounted AMT '25 T headlights. This turned out to be a fiddly little project but I'm pleased with the results. This time I got smart and didn't glue the little stand rods into the frame rails so I won't have to work around the bar on final prep. Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiI also redid the front shocks. I just wasn't feeling the modified Revell '32 versions with their really clunky upper mounts and didn't like where they were gonna force the headlights to be. I made the upper mounts on the frame and the shocks are rears from the modern-tool Ala Kart that nobody likes. Hosted on FotkiI think I'm pretty much there with the chassis fab. Need to finish up the engine details then can move on to the floor and interior construction.

Love the headlight and shock mounts, very sensible and straightforward engineering there. I might have to steal the idea for my '34 project.
I just pulled a '27 touring out of the box, wondering if I could stuff a Corvair mill in the front. Lol. A project for another time, maybe.

UPDATE!You guys ever just completely forget about a project and upon finding it go, "Oh, that's right!", Considering all the work put into this model so far, that's pretty sad. Upon re-discovering it and giving things a look it came back to me that the reason I stopped working on it A YEAR AGO! is that I was drawing a creative blank trying to come up with how I wanted to do the floor and interior. And then while looking at it again yesterday, IT HIT ME! The worst of the job is over, now it's just details. This is actually the big PIZA! discovery that got the ball rolling again. I found with just a touch of sanding that the non-channeled firewall from Revell's '29 Roadster would fit perfectly inside the cowl and the relief built into it gets around the odd shaped flywheel housing of the 'banger. Hosted on Fotki With the way the chassis is constructed it was apparent from the get-go that there was going to be no room for a back seat. When I left off a year back I had also not made the right-hand wheel well. Just like the left side, the wheel well is cut down from the channeled wells in Revell's '29 Roadster. From there I put my patience cap on and fitted a rear floor panel and angled riser both made from .040" sheet. I also installed 1/16" tall x .040" thick strips inside the lower length of the body to act as "sub rails" for the lower floor pan to sit on (since there's not a consistent ledge of frame rail to support the floor.) Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiUsing more .040" sheet I made a front floor pan. Then out came the Dremel and another '37 Ford floor was raped of its driveline tunnel. The tunnel was cut-to-fit then glued onto the floor sheet. After that I cut out the material in the middle of the floor and blended the edges into the tunnel. With the floor fitted I traced the shapes of the tunnel onto the firewall and floor riser then cut them out to match. I need to add a little material to the bottom of the firewall to close the gaps on either side of the tunnel but otherwise it all fits together nicely! Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiSince I was already stealing parts from the Revell '29 Roadster I figured I'd just keep it up so I modified the channeled side panels and seat. The side panels had to be trimmed down a little and will need a wedge of material added along the top to match the wedge-shaped body. The seat was narrowed and I had to relieve it to fit over the floor tunnel. (I will build a back and side fillers for the seat at the next session.) I also think I'm going to mount a Tweedy Pie gas tank on the rear floor and probably a fire extinguisher, too. That whole rear compartment will get a tonnue cover and I'm contemplating what to do about side and back panels, if anything? Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiOf course, we need some mock-ups! Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiComments Welcome!
