One piece at a time. Taking shape and really starting to look good. I like your style.

I really like all the work you have done so far. This is on my To Do list. The latest Rod & Kulture Magazine also has a feature on this car

Thanks Gary and Todd! I'm enjoying building this thing too. I can't wait to get the front end a bit further and then I can smooth it out with putty...After that the bodylines should look a bit smoother. Todd - that sounds interesting! Hopefully we'll see another Astorian posted in here when you get to it.

A lot of great work into this so far, Thanx for the step by step photos, I notice the roof is slightly chopped on the 1:1, are you chopping yours as well? Keep the pix coming!

Thanks Mike, I appreciate it! I'm not sure on the chop yet, let's see how it looks when the front and rear ends of the body are modified to look like the real thing. As my starting point was a Hardtop, it has a bit lower top than Sedan has. And while I had to do some mods to the roof to make it look like a Sedan, I didn't "unchop", so basically now I ended up with a slightly chopped Sedan. So let's see how it looks when the body is otherwise pretty much done. If I have to do a small chop at that point, it's not that tricky to do.

A Bit late reply, but thanks Mike! Well, it's been almost a year since I've worked on this build, it has been sitting on the back of my workbench though. Now while polishing the paint job on another TRaKable build, I thought I wanted to do something else for a while and I took this one back from the dead. I also changed all pictures in this thread to Fotki so they are showing up again. I added some pieces of styrene to the front end to create the grille opening. Those two pieces on sides are just sheet styrene, and the top piece is made out of styrene strip. As you can see here, I have to stretch the hood just a little so that it fits together with the new front end design. They probably didn't do it on the real car, but I think this is the best way to go. It will be stretched so little that probably no-one would notice it if they didn't know. Now someone might have noticed that the small "lip" that is around the grille opening on the real thing, is still missing on my build. That's just because I have to smooth out some areas with putty before. Otherwise there will be too little room to sand everything smooth. So here are a couple of pics of the body with the first set of putty sanded smooth.

Hey, it's back! The extended hood lip is probably a good idea, it will make the grill opening seem more natural.

Well, now it's back again! Hopefully I can do more progress this time. Anyway, thanks Chris! The hood issue was kind of keeping me from continuing this one, but now I just decided to continue hacking something up to fix it. So I cut the hood in half and stretched it a little so that it is long enough to fit properly on place with the new front end design. After that I fabricated the filler pieces between the round edges of the hood and the headlight buckets. They were made from several pieces of sheet styrene and after gluing them on, they were sanded to shape. Next I'll move on to smooth them out roughly with putty, before moving to working with the rear end.

Glad to see this one again. Ambitious hood extension work...I thought you were just going to build a lip on the front of the hood, as opposed to splitting and lengthening it! Looks like it's coming together

I have a spot for those dualquads and really think it a good way to lengthening the hood as the fenders. Wonder what will be in rear?

Nice to see this one back on the bench. I always enjoy seeing the plastic surgery pictures! Keep it going, looking forward to seeing her ass take shape. Thanx for sharing!
