I was talking highboys on '32 frame rails on another thread and got to wondering whatever happened to one of the builds I started years back. At the time I was looking at some pictures in a hot rod book of Tony Nancy's 22jr roadster/dragster with a blown flathead. I thought I would take the ever popular AMT 1929 Model A Roadster kit and start making some modifications and see if I could make a replica. Somewhere along the line I set it aside, but visiting this nice forum here kinda got me wondering where that kit went so I started digging through the closet, and well, here it is: I had gone as far as pirating a 32 frame and drilling some lightening holes and taking the front dropped axle off a Revell kit (31 woody I think) and dechroming it. The flathead was a Replicas and Miniatures aftermarket block with some add ons IIRC.

Not finding a suitable Scott blower at the time to go with the Offy flathead valve covers - I scratch built a big early version of an Italmechannica blower - how I did that I don't recall, but I was using Alumilite resin at the time and must've made one half as a master....saving the trouble of making all the fins on all sides and then duplicated that by molding two pieces, a left and right side, and putting them together to make one whole unit - (the tan part in the middle with scratch built belt drive attachments in front) . Think I got the motor mounts set up correctly so the strombergs would peek out through the top of the hood when the body shell went on the 32 frame....

I invested some time in modifying the frame and sourced a halibrand quick change...appears to have come from a Revel Attempt One kit - the narrow fifties style drag slicks were an aftermarket black resin product. The narrow front farm implement looking tires may have come from a Monogram 1930 Ford kit, - I intended to put salt flat style disc hub caps on them rather then the Kelsey Hayes spoke wheels. Anyway, don't really need another project to distract me from the other one, but this one has too much time invested to just put it aside .........

is the rear end upside down or do they work in all directions? Now that you mentioned it, yes. It is upside down. Driveshaft connection should be on the bottom, not the top. Boy, I 'm glad you posted before I started gluing things on. LOL Thanks!

Chris - thanks.
Replicas and Miniature came out with a decent aftermarket Scott after I started this project, probably one of the reasons I shelved this and went on to other stuff. With a little finesse maybe I can make it look ok - despite its short comings.

You certainly have some nice projects started....the fifties style '27 T, the '58 Chevy with the rolled & pleated interior, and this one. Hope you can keep progressing on all of them.

(shhhh - I haven't told these guys about the '58 Chevy Impala with the bitchin tuck n roll interior..........it might be better than Daryl Starbird's SuperfleckMoonbird ).

yep....that's hard to beat. and you've done a fine job there. For being scratchbuilt, your SCOT blower turned out really nice though. I'll be following this one

This looks very good so far! The overall look is just right, but Wow that engine looks fantastic! Especially that scratchbuilt blower is impressive, especially since I like seeing Blown Flatheads. I'd definitely like to see more progress on this!

Thanks guys...debating whether to ditch the homemade Italmeccanica blower and go with the nicer Replicas & Miniatures SCOTT resin product. If I go for high fidelity detail on the rest of this model...maybe I should use the R&M resin blower and save this funkier homemade blower for something less detailed...?
