I'm running out of words to say here Dennis! This is just killer! I plan on building a very similar '29 roadster (albeit, for the quarter mile) that is very close to yours.....right down to an early injected Hemi. But, who knows when that will come about. At least now I can look back at your thread to see what I need to do in certain areas! Keep it up! I can't wait to see paint on this one; and think it will blow your black '27 T roadster out of the water.....and I really like that one! Well, technically, each new model you build should be better than the last, right? So I hope it does! (By the way, the T Dragstrip Roadster is actually dark blue! LOL )

I'm not sure why I typed 'black'...........especially since I still keep picturing it the blue it was molded in before you shot paint on it! LOL!

The Roadster is a Flintstone body so it wasn't molded in blue resin! What you're thinking of is the '27 Touring which IS molded in light blue.

I was ORIGINALLY thinking of your '27 T roadster now that I reflect back on what I first responded! LOL! I really thought that one was black. And then my previous response to this one was nothing other than a brain fart that crossed sideways........resulting in my thinking of your '27 Touring! LOL!

This is looking great! very inspiring. It amazes me that they put a hemi between 29 rails. I would think that much power would be too much for the frame. But I guess the lighter frame made for faster time trials.

This is looking great! very inspiring. It amazes me that they put a hemi between 29 rails. I would think that much power would be too much for the frame. But I guess the lighter frame made for faster time trials. Thanks! To put things in perspective, they used a '54 Dodge Hemi which was only 241 cubic inches. By '49 the flathead V8 (in Mercury's) had grown to 255 cubic inches. Even in '55 at the end of the 3-year run of the first generation Dodge the engine had only grown to 270 which was regularly exceeded by hot stroker / big bore flatheads that were exceeding 280 inches. What made the Hemi so advantageous wasn't its size, like any other over head valve engine it could breath way better than a flathead. With the Hilborn injection and alcohol the Hemi might have been pushing 300 horse power, maybe. That's a significant jump from the best 200 horse power full-race flathead but it's still not that much. Also, since they were using an early Ford driveline with a torque tube banjo rear end there really wasn't a significant increase in strain on the frame rails. The torque tube is one giant trailing arm that's attached to the back of, and puts the driving force the transmission / engine. It's when you eliminate the torque tube for a conventional drive shaft with trailing arms attached to the frame rails that the frame starts getting upset because now the frame is taking the driving force. At that point it's time to box the rails.

Keep teaching 'em Dennis! LOL! Man I wish I could bang them out like you do! I'd be tickled pink if I could just get one built a year at this rate.
