..sorry guys, but this tread where not about T-birds with Hemis.. I'd like to se more of well enginered a shortbed Pu. Just because we (John included) started discussing and sharing pics of wicked cool T-birds doesn't mean that John will not post any more progress photos if he has them to share! LOL! This is how we get along here......bounce ideas off of each other, share reference material (when a specific topic arises); and generally express our comradery. It has ALWAYS been like that here on the forum..........and I don't see a reason for it to change now! LOL!

All the best threads get derailed! I haven't had a chance to scan that article yet, but I'll post it in the 1:1 reference section. It was an interesting car, had a reworked Hydramatic modified for higher stall speed and with a manual valve body, a trans cooler, oil cooler and a 4" exhaust with straight through 8" diameter mufflers.

I like the '55-'57 as much as C1 Corvettes; but they're one car that I keep forgetting about until I go through my photos of cars I plan on building someday! LOL!

Back to those Tbird tail lights, there was a superoverpriced '55 Tbird with those same tail lights on it for sale in Craigslist last week. Turns out they are aff of a '48, '49ish Mercury Station Wagon and a near bolt on modification onto all 3 years of REAL Tbird sports cars, guess they were a pretty popular swap. I knew I had seen those tail lights on something besides a Tbird, funny even as a lifelong car guy (read that nut) I learn something new all the time. This time it's about something I've seen a few times but didn't realize the tail light's real origin; I think I just thought they were one of those great J.C. Whipley or Almquist bolt ons, even though I'd seen them on the Merc Wagon before it just never clicked! (Hey I'm sorta obtuse sometimes!!)

The AMT '56 Ford Fairlane has those Merc wagon tail lights.

'55-'56 Merc Wagon taillights = bolt-on mod for '55-'56 Fords and T-birds.
In '60 F-100 news, the short-bed's back on the bench for more body work, after I get an interior to fit in my '58 Fairlane.
Was looking through old HRM and R&Cs for custom '57-'60 pickups – haven't found any. Anybody have vintage inspiration they can share for the truck?

Awhile back I added a custom grill to the truck from the Aurora Grill & Trim parts pack. Added a matching grill to the hood opening, getting rid of the hood emblem and the corresponding raised center of the hood.

Looks great John. Wish I had an "eye" for customs but I just don't have that vision.

Looks good John! Are you going to make the grille in the hood flush?

I had to look twice; the patina on the new grille matches the bumper/headlight unit so in a way it looks like nothing was done. Cool!

Friggin' awesome John - Is there any possible way to incorporate some of the grille into the tail section to "balance" the design?
