Cool project Chris! You got a shit load of body work ahead of you! That's for sure! I did the same thing with a 57 T Bird. I set it on a Phantom Vickie chassis. I haven't finished it of course. I got bogged down with all of the scratch building and punked out when it came time to make the headers that exited through the body.

Haha, thanks guys. Roger, you're right! After taking an extended break to wonder what the heck I got myself into, I'm slowly chipping away at it, putting some structure back into the body in preparation for the next moves... "Go big or go home", they say, and since this 'vette is past the point of no return, that only leaves one option! I have some styrene sails from a model ship on standby...the plan is to try and cut away the fenders (definitely the fronts; not sure about the rears yet) and install concave coves made from sections of the curved sails. The front coves will hopefully extend into the door, removing the "hump" where the body was tapered inward. Also, I recently came into possession of a little clockwork gear set, which includes a couple pinions small enough to consider building a working steering box or rack/pinion. I hacked together a prototype rack and pinion using the tiny pinion, some brass and aluminum rod, and teeth from an X-acto razor saw blade. After tons of fiddling to get the clearances right, it more or less works! More on that later.

I am liking it so far; especially the front lower valance panel's new shape! I can't say I'm feeling the concept in your sketch's but my opinion means nothing here! LOL!

Oh man, I really like this, and I'm glad you're going to stay with it. I've never seen anything like it and that's a good thing. Gary

The critical questions is...should I shave the door handles?
lol.

Man I love it! make it look like that little sketch in the background and you have this contest in the bag. this gets more badass every time you post.
are you doing to leave the surfboard flat or insert it on edge like the surfite?

The surboard will mount flat so it isn't especially visible in profile. I tried it vertically, but it was visually bulky...the next option would be to make a slot in the body for the board to fit into, but I'd like the car to look complete without the board as well.

Good call Chris!! I think that if it were standing on it's edge it might look like one of those glass company trucks! LOL!!! And if the board has some kool graphics on it like maybe from a side mural of a van kit?

Do you think you're up to the challenge of removing the door handles? Remember, once they're off, they're off. Anyway, please don't lose the Stingray identity! Gary

In case anyone is interested, Chief Joseph makes GM truck and car handles. Also 2 styles of Chrysler handles in resin! They are on my want list. I hate the look of big blobby looking door handles on a model!! (personally anyhow) I sometimes even whittle them out, but that is very time consuming and tricky!! This is a Mustang that I did the whittling way- And before shot- David S.
