I'll be the contrarian: yes for skirts and no for wire wheels. To me, that car looks too visually heavy for wires.
The body looks really good with most/all of the trim removed. I like the replacement of the front bumper with a custom pan.

No skirts & no wires, unless you find a set of Chrysler 300 style wire wheels. Charley's right, the wire wheels you've picked out have wires that are visually too delicate looking for the car itself. The rims look ok, if a bit big in diameter for the era, (I'd measure them in scale, 1mm=1" in scale, & the Fujimi wires I have all have rims that look too large for a lot of cars & eras, I think they might measure out to between 17"-19" in 1/25th), but those wires are too dainty looking for the car itself.
I'd go with a set of chrome reverse rims, (perhaps with baby Moons added, a good friend of mine runs that combo on his 1/1 56 Chevy, with pinner whitewalls & that looks very sharp), a set of Astro rims from the AMT 65 Riviera, with the thin line WW tires in the Parts pack, or a set of the Pegasus Hobbies Astro 5 spoke rims & their pinner WW tires, if it were my model.

NO SKIRTS----8 SKIRTS----2
And 2 "NO" votes on the wire wheels.
Now, that's got me rethinking my choice of wheels. I'll hit the parts bin and see what's in there. I'll also check out the stash of kits, to see what kinda wheels I can find.

What kit did that kustom front piece come from -AMT-57 ford -??-----58 Impala always make great kustoms remember the "Limelighter " The Limelighter is one of my favorite customs of all time: I've got an AMT 58 Impala myself that I've been building in a similar style to the Limelighter. Not a replica, but certainly inspired by it. No pics yet, as it's sitting back in the stash while I work out a few ideas in my mind for it. A lot of sanding off of the trim & shaping the upper rear quarters have been done to it, along with working on some headlight ideas. Once it makes it's way back to my work desk I plan to take in-progress pics.

I think the wire wheels could work if you changed out the tires to a set of narrow white walls. If the stance is staying as is, I would ditch the skirts. Get it down nice and low, the skirts will definitely work.

I agree that a '58 is just too heavy for wires, although those are very nice wires! Also NO skirts, well those are only my opinions, but I love what you've done so far!

These wires I have may be a bit delicate, but heavy cars from the fifties certainly rode on wire wheels: Both pics borrowed from the WWW. Caddy, Buick, Olds, Chrysler, and others rode on wires of some sort back in the day. I'll check my stash and spares to see if I have any that are more hefty.

If you wanna go with wires, you should check out the ones in AMT's '65 Buick Riviera/Bill Cushenbery's "Silhouette" show car (both kits have identical wire/mag options) - They can easily be sanded down to fit narrower tires. For additional effect I recommend, that you top them off with the 2-bar spinners from AMT's '53 Studebaker Starliner.

Heavier cars did indeed ride on wires, and I have narrowed those from the Riv kit to fit wide whites myself!
