Hey guys, I was scrolling through instagram and got inspired by seeing those guys in Pennsylvania tearing around the dirt oval at the Jalopy Showdown. I've always loved track roadsters so I thought I would put one together. The plan is a quick (ish) fun build of a 29 A-V8 purpose built for the dirt oval or dirt drags. First order of business was the body. I grafted a Revell 29 Pickup cowl/firewall onto an AMT body. I know the trim doesn't exactly match but for a jalopy I'm not going to trip about it. I shaved the hinges (welded doors shut) and filled the ridges in the wheel wells with round stock. Next was the inner door supports. The interior will be stripped down. I may add inner door skins. Again, not 100% accurate, but I'm trying not to get hung up on the minute details. I also used the Revell 29 pickup floor and scratchbuilt the back half out of sheet styrene. The frame is Revell 29 pickup, stepped in the rear with the newer Revell 29 roadster front cross member, 40 ford engine mounts and center cross member from the Ala Kart. I may have mounted the engine back a little too far, Stay tuned to find out.

Bitchin!
Nice work on all of the body mods and corrections.
I'm feeling Zach Suhr's roadster as inspiration...

I like this. Just curious: what was the reason for grafting on the Revell cowl? Better firewall detail?

I like this. Just curious: what was the reason for grafting on the Revell cowl? Better firewall detail? It's not that necessary of a mod but the firewall on the Revell pickup is a much better replication of the real thing and I like how the cowl and firewall are molded together. I suppose the firewall could have been cut out of the cowl too. I did that on another 29 I have in the works. Honestly, it's all just experimentation and a "what if I did this?" approach.

I like me a bare bones racer, whether it's dirt sand or pavement! Nice work so far!

Fair enough. It's shocking how good the old Revell '29/'31 parts are compared with the new tools.

It looks great at this point. The careful fabrication work is a treat to look at. I'm looking forward to seeing hoe you handle the hood and Deuce shell combo.

The plan was to go hoodless and show off the hopped up flathead I have planned for it. Unless I get opinions otherwise. If I run a hood I will definitely need to raise the grill shell.

All the latest updates look really good. Nice work bashing together the rear axle and the details you added to the molded in radiator look sweet! The overall stance and proportions look right-on.
I’d also like to add that I’m super jealous you got to hang out with Zach and his club and go to the showdown. That’s bad ass!!!

Thanks Dennis, I may need to scrap the radiator/grill and find another one. It sits a bit too low. Zach and his club were very nice, it made the 7 hour drive worth it just to see his cool shop. The showdown was a cherry on top. Those Penn. guys know what real hot rodding is all about.
