After seeing John's survivor '34, I had to have one of my own. And since I'm waiting for the clear to cure out on my current project, I figured now was as good a time as any to get started. There goes my "no new projects" rule! The plan is to just build it pretty much straight out of the box except for the wheels and tires. I'm not decided on those yet. I had these kicking around and stuck them on for now. I've began setting my models up so that I can change out the wheels and tires easily. Comes in real handy when I change my mind. I do that a lot! The color I have planned for it is a military type blue. But, I'm going to shoot a coat of clear pearl over it and then add a few coats of clear. When I get it in paint, maybe I'll be able to nail down the rolling stock. Most everything is sanded and ready for primer. I had to do a little shimming to get the hood, cab and bed lined up so that everything fit like it should. Hopefully, this will be a quick little project. 20181125_110710-1 by Roger Hayes, on Flickr

Looks great already with that rolling stock.......newer reissue of the old Monogram '32 Ford roadster? I always get excited when I see another '34 Ford pickup hit the bench!

Likin' it! Are those Pegasus chrome reverse in Monogram tires? Exactly. Not sure if they'll stay or not. I've got a few other ideas in mind right now.

Hey Roger, I just recently saw that the upcoming reissue of this kit, with modified first-issue style box art, will include the retooled Ala Kart wheels. So, you could clone John's survivor!

Looks good, but don't get me started on those wheels. It's probably not too late to tag onto the '34 pickup cBP. since there are still a few of us left to finish ours.

Yeah, I knew about that Randy. But, I couldn't wait and I knew I wouldn't be able to get it for the price that I got this one. I may get one when it hits the shelves. I decided against the first set of wheels and tires. I have two other Ford pickups with the exact combo. Plus, I have two others with chrome reverse wheels. So,those had to go! I didn't like the ride height up front. So, I grabbed a front axle from a Revell '32. It fit like it was made for it and gave me the additional drop I needed. Now, I'm kinda thinking that I may switch out the rearend too. I'll keep the spring and replace the rest. So much for a simple build! I had these wheels/tires kicking around and since I'm using the front axle from the '32 and possibly the rear end too, they seemed like a good fit. But, I'm still looking for the perfect combo. Can't see it in the photo. But, I removed the spare tire well on the passenger side. I didn't like how the tube grille stuck out past the shell. So, I ground off as much as possible on the back side to make it fit better. If I end up using it, I may grind out the shell so that I can recess it a touch more. Don't know if I'll use the kit headlights and bar. I may switch them out for those from the Revell '32 kit also. It's now ready for the final primer coats. I can let it cure while I'm working on my other project. Hopefully, I can resist making any more changes in the mean time. 20181128_131843-1 by Roger Hayes, on Flickr

Looks awesome with those wheels and tires! Way, way better.
If you want a skinnier bias ply front those wheels fit perfectly into the Ed Roth Beatnik Bandit front tires. You just have to cut the centers/spokes out of the inner rims, glue them to the back of the outer wheel then thin down the remaining inner rims. Super easy.

Looks real promising, Roger! Would love to see how you eliminated the spare tire well.

But, I have the recessed line around the sidewall painted blue. So, I want to keep the tires matching. The wheels won't be used. I just stuck them on to get away from the first set.
