THE PROGRESS: I decided to use the Revell 29 roadster frame after all. (I have several so I can experiment). I did a sweep in the front buy making relief cuts in the top and bottom of the frame rails. Stepped the rear, made motor mounts and a trans mount and unboxed the frame horns. The rear is a QC center section and model A axle housings, a parts box spring perch mounted to the existing rear cross member (slightly modified). Open drive made from tubbing and parts box U joints. THE ROADBLOCK: Due to the lowered frame the trans and rear sit just above the frame rails. The driveshaft and rear are level. The normal application of rear radius rods will not work since they will be above the frame rails, into the interior compartment. 4 link is a no no. The Weesner painting looks like wishbones, but they look significantly lower than the rear axle. ( I know it's a painting ). Anyway, all thoughts and suggestions welcome.

This is a style of model that used to be more popular here on TRaK but has faded in recent years. There was a version of this done by one of my favorite modelers here a few years back, but now long gone. His name was Dave Nelson and he went by the "handle" of racer13. It can be found here: His was a little rusty and had a flathead, unlike the drawing. Yours sounds cool and would be quite different, and yet true to the spirit. Do It! Kandy Apply Krate by racer13: I am very fond of keith Weesner Art and I believe you nailed the Krate , great job!

Chassis looks good so far. The sweep is just right, not overdone and modern looking. I also like how you made the frame horns!
Looking back at the Weesner artwork it definitely looks to me like he rendered inboard mounted ladder bars or hairpins out back. Right in that gap between the back of the cab and slick you can see there is a little midway brace that would tie the lower and upper bars together.

That is the the plan, but look at the top of the rear ladder bar in relation to the rear axle. It would have to be mounted on a bracket below the axle. From what I've read, the top ladder bar should not be lower than the rear axle. I could be wrong, and that would make this easier. Again, its a painting and not a real build. But I would like my version to be believable as a drivable show car.

UPDATE: I scored a sweet deal on this Parts Pack Caddy at a model show this weekend ( 3 freakin' clams !!!) so my previous plan of using a SBC from the Tweedy Pie will be scraped and the Caddy will be used instead. QUESTION: The Caddy comes with a powerglide and an in/out trans. I also have a resin Lasalle tranny. Which would be more appropriate with a QC rear and open drive???

I think the caddy comes with a B&M Hydro rather than a powerglide. The hydro is probably a fine choice! If clearance is a problem, the LaSalle will probably take less space.

You are correct Chris, it's a B&M Hydro. The LaSalle would work better space-wise, but I wanted to make sure it would be a good match for the QC and open drive set up before re-working my engine/trans mounts

Can't beat 3 bucks!
LaSalle trannies are stout as hell. Would take all the abuse that Caddy could throw at it.

Looks like the front wheels can be sourced from the Revell Attempt 1 kit. I'm sure someone has a set floating around their parts box.
The thing about Weesners artwork is that very often the bodies appear "shrunken" from stock. So, using 1/24 wheels/tires would help achieve that look.
