This is one of 2 models I started after I finished up last year's bunch. I've had this old ElCamino model in and out of the box many times over the years since I started it, but just never went anywhere with it that was satisfying me. This time I might just find the interest I couldn't find before. I also had a Monogram 59 Impala convertible that became a parts kit. So what else could I do but try to combine them into something (strange). I've gone a bit further than the last picture here, and please remember I'm just getting started. Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiI cross braced the Elky body before I cut it apart. The 'vert kit body was about an eighth of an inch wider than the Elky's so I had to split it in half. The front of the body was built up with many pieces of sheet styrene (What the heck would I do without that stuff?). The grille opening has been further modified than this picture shows. Blending the 2 bodies together hasn't been easy at all. The side profiles were fairly different. Stay tuned! Gary

What the... That's bold! I love how you're building customs that could have existed in 1:1 in the late 50s or 60s. I could see this creature parked next to the Trendero. The way you hew new shapes from laminated blocks of plastic is inspirational. Are you going to put nerf bars on this one? Maybe little horizontal corner nerfs under the outboard headlights, like cheekbones. '50s Corvette bumperettes? Just a thought. Now of course you'll have to come up with an equally dramatic tail-end treatment

The back end, yeah that is a problem right now. No plan yet for it. The stock back window is in place as of yesterday.

Wow Gary...side coves, 60's Mopar looking grill style(vastly improved)...Revell parts pack rear cove - Outstanding collection of styling tricks. I'm looking forward to where this one goes!
...The more I look at this, between the fins and the side coves this really has that "speedboat" look-

I really like your interpretation of the 59 Chevy. I never would have thought to combine the Elcamino roof with the impala body. I like the wild front and rear treatment as well.

Badass!!! So...I'm seeing '57 Chevy 3-in-1 custom taillight extensions mounted horizontally out back, and a rear pan made from a Revell "dream car bumpers and grilles" unit. Love it! I'm not sure when Wide Oval tires came into vogue, but to me it gives the car a distinct late-stage 60s Kustom flavor...you know, when it's about 1969 or 1970 and the customs of the mid-60s are starting to become old hat so they've been decked out with fat tires and psychedelic seaweed-ribbon paint jobs to stay current.

I haven't got a picture of the finished interior so I need to take one for here. Final assembly is in progress right now. Hosted on FotkiThoughts, comments, put 'em here! Gary

Killer, looks like a GM MotorRama or styling exercise, can't wait to see all the jewelry on it.

Nuff said, but I still like shiny stuff like those Cadillac wheel covers.

So glad to see this one back! Your chosen paint job is so much classier than my suggestion, lolol.

Very cool project that just keeps getting better and better after each update! The body styling is looking excellent. At first I wasn't completely sure about the front end styling, but now with the rest of the body modifications and a single color on the body it looks just right. It's exactly something that I could imagine seeing in a car show in the '60s. Perfect color choice for an Elky, too!
