U should not tease the imagination unpuniched. Why do it straight when is bendable.. U may see where this is headed.. if not: A couple minutes later.. ..more to come.

oooh, imagine ditching the back window and building it as a notchback, like the '64 1/2 Mustang! Very interesting so far!

Cool mods so far! Re: wheels...I actually think the stock Halibrand mags look pretty good.

Swapping the quarter windows and wheel wells around sure corrects some faults in Loewy's design. Did anybody ever do that before? Anyway, great ideas Bob. Also, the Mustang rear window idea has a lot of merit too. Think about it! Gary

The Avanti has just never really floated my boat. I want to like it, and the nose/headlight design is so cool...but then I just kind of meeeeh, no thanks. That dramatic first impression just never seemed to mature into appreciation for the car in its entirety.
These modifications go a long way toward making the car look more conventional--but also more attractive IMHO. Add in a notchback roof like the Mustang, and it could even be a car I'd lust after! Maybe I'd ditch the weird front bumpers too.
Anyway, not meaning to push you in any particular direction...it's just that this model has me excited about the Avanti in a way I've never been before!

Tnx a lot!!! U just put words to my thoughts. I really want to like te Avanti but it's so hard as the is to many if's.. I had this idéa and I bougth this one cheap at the evilbay and had it sent to my middleman in US.. he did'nt send it in time for a "Avanti challenge" we had in a Swedish forum (now dead..) Actually I think this is an Id'ea that came out of a discussion with Roger Nordhagen a great 1/1 car-painter and 1.st class modelbuider.

This is an interesting project! The stock Avanti looks pretty good in all of its' weirdness, but your modifications definitely improve the overall look. Especially flipping the side windows upside down is a great touch.
Those Halibrands that Chris suggested would indeed look really good under this one. Another option that came to my mind would be a set of Keystone Mags, or maybe even somekind of wire wheels like seen on some '50s cars, but with white striped tires instead of the wide whitewalls.

I wouldn't have thought about swapping the wheel arches, but now you've drawn attention to it, it does look odd in its original form. I like the idea of making it a notchback - that big rear window has always turned me off these, same with the Jensen Interceptor. Some kind of buttresses or sail panels might work too. I'll go against the grain and say I preferred the original turned up quarter windows. Now, it reminds me somewhat of an '80s compact car. Appliance Apache wheels might look good.

So what does the side view look like now, if you put the fastback rear window in place? Those upside down quarter windows do make it scream notchback to me though. Just sayin'.

..I'm in no hurry. Just keep on listening with an open mind ..or?
Okay then.. I think this fuglybird is inspired by european sportcars and have different "stolen" idéas from overseas. I kind of like that.
In the same time it's partly forward in style. ("Avanti" is Italian for.. forward) May be I've made it to far by turning the rear ht-window.. Now, I do have both set of purposed rims.. and also wires. Next thing I'll do is rework front and rearbody's downsides..
I might be some distracted/affected as I'm soon to have a AMC Pacer done..

Appliance Apache wheels might look good. Hey Stu, if I wanted to find Appliance Apache wheels in scale, where would I look? Are they available in the aftermarket? I'm thinking they'd look rad on my SurfStar 'vette project.

I'm thinking they'd look rad on my SurfStar 'vette project. No current kits I can think of. They were in the AMT annual '67 Camaro, the original issue of the Mach I Mustang concept car, probably others but I forget... I'm sure I've seen resin copies but don't know if anyone's still casting them? No help, am I?

I'm thinking they'd look rad on my SurfStar 'vette project. I need at least two sets, and the ones in the Mach 1 concept car kit are really nice. I dropped some hints to Ed awhile back about maybe casting them, but I don't think he picked up what I was dropping If he was interested, anyone have one to use as a master?
