Over the last couple weeks I've been casting some tires to use on two other projects. It's been using what little modeling time I've had. So this weekend I had some time, and instead of actually getting any work done on existing projects, I started another. Ack!
Honestly though, I've been looking at this '55 body on the shelf for a long time. Every so often, I'd pick some parts and pile them on top...pinner whitewalls, Keystones from the AMT '40, a steering wheel from an AMT '51 Chevy...etc etc.
So, the tweaks so far:
-modified the Revell wheel backs and Keystones to fit together.
-cut the blobby "brake discs" off the front suspension and mounted spindle stubs from the stock front suspension. This gave me some drop up front.
-cut out the rear wheel wells so the car can sit low in back.
-cut out the grille and hogged out the body a little so a '59 Impala grille section can sit deep in the grille surround.
-AMT '51 Chevy convertible kit gave up an inline 6 with chrome valve cover
-Monogram '53 Corvette provided cool tri-carb intake.
-carved the firewall a little so valve cover could tuck back against it.
-cut the radiator support so radiator can be pushed forward, allowing space for the 6cyl.

I was in the process of trying to visualize what engine I wanted to put in the car, and neither the SBCs or 348/409s I had tried were really doin' it for me. Then I recalled a photo I saw recently of a lowrider '59 Impala with an inline 6, and knew I wanted to put a 6 in this Chevy, if I could make it fit.
Time to start cutting stuff!

-discovered the dropped spindles STILL rode too high, so I ground down the front crossmember to get some more drop. I want this car to tuck the whitewall a bit, if possible.
//I have some AMT smooth bumpers but they're not in good shape, so I might end up using the kit bumpers with overriders instead.
