That color looks great on it. What color are you going to use on the wheels? Thanx Ron! I painted the wheels Tamiya AS-15 Tan. It's several shades darker than the body. Today I got the last coat of paint and a coat of pearl sprayed on. The pearl is the perfect touch! Unnoticeable until it's out in the sun or at certain angles under normal lighting. Really happy with how it came out!

This is so awesome. I love everything about it. I'm glad you decided not to change the wheelbase and build it as is.
I like the leftovers idea too, no sense letting plastic go to waste!

Seems to be a very subtle pearl effect, nice that it doesn't overwhelm the truck. The final indoor shot almost shows it better than the outdoor photos!

I was a little unsure about that tan before you got the clearcoat on it, but now that it's on, I must say that it is simply gorgeous! Combined with the darker tan on the wheels, you get a really nice cafe au lait and latte thing going. And yeah, the pearl does seem to show a little better in that indoor photo.

That looks great, I really like the contrast with the wheels. Are you going with a chrome trimmed painted grille or all chrome grille?

Looks fantastic, Roger! That was a great idea I had. Haha I also really like the slightly darker wheels.
Question on the Light Sand paint. Can’t totally tell in the pics but it looks like it dried flat? That was the case with the Tamiya TS Light Earth that I used on my 29 Roadster last year. When I sprayed gloss clear over it it dried dull and I had to rub it out to get a true glossy finish. Did you do any kind of prep work prior to clear?

It gives the right effect if done properly. Hard to see in normal light. But, it really pops in the sun. The last photo was taken outside in the shade. That's the true color.

The way I did this paint job was two coats of paint, let it dry a day (first photos), one more coat of paint, let it dry an hour, one coat of clear pearl, let that dry a day, two coats of clear, let that dry a day and finally, the last coat of clear. I didn't sand between any of the coats which is something I always do normally. It has a pretty good shine to it. I may polish it. I may not.

The chassis and engine are done. I decided to go with the kit Pontiac engine instead of the '40s flat head. The main reason I went with it is it may never be seen again. A test fit of the cab and hood proved that tight panel lines can be a hindrance when it comes time to remove the hood. In hindsight, I should have made the hood and sides separate. Whatever. This chassis isn't half bad once you cut out all of the molded in stuff and get it cleaned up. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will look under the body. This old truck is in the home stretch. I just gotta polish the paint, detail the dash and put it together. Regardless of how it turns out, it's been a fun project that's gotten an idea out of my head and on the shelf.
