I'm slowly getting back in gear on this build after finishing the '58 Ford taildragger. After some nail-biting stressful work, the door handles were shaved off. The next step was to remove the bumper ends and add them to the front fender since they are actually part of that panel. The bumpers then went to Dale Horner for plating. After removing the molded-on wiper detail, a set of new wipers was made from ABS plastic and styrene strip, then they were plated with Alclad. I also made up an inside rear view mirror. The chassis was detail painted, and the lake plugs and tailpipes were Alclad plated. Now I'm racking my brain for an interesting taillight treatment! Suggestions welcome!

Taillight idea: '61 T-bird lens with a '59 Cad bullet in the center.

Nice job on that engine insert, at first glance I thought it was an actual engine.

Love Rancheros and El Caminos. I really like the way you are going with this.

Picking up on Chepp's T-bird tallight idea I robbed the custom lights from AMT's new-tool '62 T-bird and hogged out the Ranchero's rear end to make them fit. In the meantime I received the replated bumpers from Dale Horner. I attempted to black out the space between the "stars" of the grill mesh with a fine black ink marker. I'm not happy with it so will try going over it again before moving on to Plan B. My color scheme is sorted out. Tamiya Candy Lime Green over Silver, (as shown on the dash), on the roof and lower body, with Tamiya Racing White upper body and upholstery. Might hit the white with some pearl clear. Sorry, no coral!

Sorry, no coral! Try washing some slightly thinned India Ink into the grill area, I think this will get you closer to what you were looking for with the fine line pen, repeat the washes until you have the look your going for. I’m really loving that lime you’ve got on the dash, should really pop with the chrome and detailing! Really like what you’ve got going with this one!

The candy green/white colors should look gorgeous. Thanks for losing the coral (although it might look OK on a showroom stock '59 as a two-tone with white).

Well, after a year-plus sitting beside the work bench, the Ranchero project is moving again! Finished the interior awhile back, after mixing in a '58 Plymouth steering wheel with the '59 Ford/'63 Galaxie XL mash-up. Mopar always had the coolest steering wheels! Also added a tube grill from a vintage Aurora Grill & Trim parts pack. Two chrome bullets from the original issue AMT '57 T-bird were added to the taillights for an additional custom touch. A Plastruct half-round strip molding was added to the tailgate to serve as a color-break between upper and lower body, and to give another touch of chrome. After noodling the body work, a coat of Tamiya White Surface Primer went on, followed by more body work touchups, then those areas received some spot priming with the airbrush. After a bit more body work and primer it should finally be ready for paint!
