And as threatened, this is my take on the 60 Stepside. The bed etc. are from the AMT 55 Chevy pickup and so far the rest is from the 60 kit. I've done the usual dechroming including the trim on the B pillars. I was never fond of the hood snorkels so I filled them in and somewhat contoured them and then added a center filler to the hood. The bed isn't really crooked, I just didn't adjust it for this picture. The gap at the lower rear body to the frame has been filled. The runningboards don't cover that area. Stay with me cuz I hope to have more updates. If anybody has thoughts on a wheel and tire set let me know. Gary Hosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki

If anybody has thoughts on a wheel and tire set let me know. Gary Depends on the flavor you're going for. Since it appears to be leaning to mild custom I would say something with full wheel covers.

Love the new tubular bed rails and the filled snoot! Wheel-wise, I'm not sure what style you're going for. I could see this truck with painted reversed steelies and spider caps.
Full caps could work...maybe studebaker, cone caps, or spun aluminum Moon discs?
Or metallic/candy purple paint, pinstrpe whitewalls on chrome reverse wheels, dropped ultra low.
I can almost imagine it being a mashup between stock and custom ideas...heavy forward rake, pearl mint green or pale blue but with blackwall tires and poverty caps.
Or primered bruiser...grey primer on the body, red primer on the bed, torque thrust mags on blackwalls.
Who knows!

I know I don't know. At least not yet. Gary
I know I don't know. Doesn't that just cancel itself out?!

I want to keep this model all AMT, but I do have the Revell Caddy engine in the picture. The red "W" block group is scabbed together from my engine parts stash. The light blue one is from the AMT 59 Elky. The Chevy smallblock in the lower center is also scabbed from my engine stash. The Fuelie smallblock has parts from AMT '63 and '66 Vette kits. Which one of these engines should I put in my truck? Parts of the 6 cylinder are at the top center. Thanks, Gary Hosted on Fotki

348 tri-power is what I want to put in mine when I get back to it. It will be a stepside using the bed from the Revell 65 with wide whites and 60 Impala wheel covers.

I would go with the Caddy engine from the '49 Ford if it were my project. Maybe a bit more badass than the 348s, but it might also depend on which direction you're taking the project.

Do something different and stick the six banger in it. Second choice would be a small block Chevy. Maybe use Corvette valve covers and the fuelie intake? Something else I would do to it is turn it into a big back window. Six cylinders can be pretty cool.

Like your idea of the step side bed and the modifications you've already done to it, should turn out really nice!
I have a Dressed Up, Dual Quad 409 set aside for mine. It will be running Chrome Reverse Wheels with 3 - 4 inches lower all around, enough lowering that shows but isn't going to scrape! A High School buddy had a '60 with a "Dressed Up" 348 in his it was a looker, I think it started out as a 6-Cylinder too. The only thing that I didn't like on it was the Cragar wheels, I like Cragars just not on trucks.

I just have a few new pictures to post today. Things have been slow on the bench this week. I pulled this grille out of my junk pile and I think I like it. Hosted on FotkiAnd, as Roger suggested (thank you!) I made it into a big window. Still needs a little fine tuning. BTW, I'm going with the 348 from the 59 Elky kit. Coulda started life in this engine compartment, right? Hosted on FotkiNow about that big window. Before I riddled it with very large caliber bullets, I took a scriber and ran it around the crease where the big window rubber will be. There was no specific depth I was going for but I ran the scriber around many times. The next thing I did was bevel the scribed opening with a scalpel blade to represent the roundness of the rubber. Then sawed out the waste and filed and sanded to size(ish). Tomorrow I'll finesse it a tiny bit more. Hosted on FotkiLet's hear your ideas. Thanks for yours Roger. Gary

That rear window conversion is very smoothly done! I love the new custom grille, too. The 348 should look just right under the hood, too.
