Now that I have built two models since I came back to the hobby I was thinking I should try to challenge myself a little. I see a lot of you guys do beautifully back dated frames and chassis, so I decided I would try my hand at it as well. My thought here was to have a body and interior that drop onto the frame and can be displayed separately. I added a 37 panel van rear crossmember with a good size Z, and front and back suspension from the 36 kit. Actually the rear is the spring from the 37 glued to the 36 rear end.The X member is left over from a full custom 49 merc I did as a curbside many years ago. Top is chopped roughly 4 scale inches, I took out just over 1/8” and modified the A pillars to avoid stretching the roof, wanting to leave the roof insert intact. Wheels and tires are up in the air, I am not sure what I will use but I did order some modelhaus tires. I kind of like the 49 ford (I think) custom wheels I am showing it with, but am definitely open to feedback. Actually building the frame up this way is a first for me, so let me know what you think.

That chop is righteous, and the stance it looking really good. I'm not big on the tires on the front of the second pic, but the wheels look good

Craig, thanks for the feedback. That second pic is actually from a few days ago when I chopped it and I just so happened to have two rear tires in front of me so I just threw them on one side to see how it looked with wide whites. I jam using modelhaus 120’s on the front and thought I ordered the rears I wanted but accidentally got wide white slicks (140), still may use them though. They just came a few minutes ago so I have not played with how they look yet.

Ditto! I think the moon caps look good on those tires, and fit well with the Caddy engine era-wise.

Jeff; you're doing some awesome work on your '32. the chop is just right, not too deep, and in my opinion, the rims and tires, that you've used now, should be those that you use, to finish it ! well done ! i also think, that your '32 would look killer with motorcycle front fenders and bobbed rear fenders !

I think you’re off to a great start. Chop looks nice and the Caddy and Chromies go good together. Picturing it with big and little tires I’m seeing a definite Weesner art connection. I like the AMT tires and slicks in your chassis mock up...
Frame mods look good for your first time. I’ve actually thought several times about using that ‘49 Merc center “X” and still want to but need to find the just-right situation.

I think the slicks look really good on the back, as they do on the back of any open wheeled Hot Rod, those front bias ply tires would look great as well. Seconding the comment about using cycle fenders on the front, probably the rear too as you'd have a fun time of doing bobbed Deuce fenders with that deep channel. It'll come together and look sweet in the end! Wishlist Comment: Wish we could get someone to cast some of these necessary bits to backdate the Revell Deuce Frame. Like the '32 - '40 rear crossmembers, Model A front cross member and lastly on the wish list would be a Model A rear crossmember so you could set the rear up with an "A" spring and a QC rear end. I do have one of Norm's backdated '32 frames it's done well and worth what I paid for it to be able to slip it right under the Deuce I used it on, made things a whole lot simpler.

Thank you everyone, I admire your builds very much and have used them as inspiration to try new stuff.
Dennis, it’s funny you mention Weezner. I have paintings of his on my lock screen for phone and iPad, as well as a few rodder’s Journal t shirts of his, and I changed my avatar about the sam3 time you posted before seeing your post. I very much admire and enjoy his style of art.
Skip, I couldn’t agree more on your thoughts about parts to backdate these frames. Rep and mins is very nice but it relies on the 29 kit that is quickly becoming unobtainium. Someone should master a new one using more accessible parts, or start producing 29 suspension parts to accompany the frame available. Or someone cast the applicable 40 ford parts to sell as a kit for backdating the revell frame, it could include the full set of parts needed. I think a few would sell!
