Looks like it has some pretty serious rocker rash! Good luck, curious to see what you do with it!

Staring the body work. First filled in all the holes with stretched sprue and super glue gel... I was surprised how well the interior cleaned up

I have a question Ron, I see the stub's of sprue sticking up and I see the super glue, now do you first fill the hole with glue then put the heated sprue on top of the glue? I've never used this method before.

I've never used this method before. I'm not Ron, but I can probably answer this. He heats the sprue, stretches it, cuts it at the stretched area, fills the hole with it, then super glues the sprue in place. Once the glue sets he then trims the spruce from the body, leaving a filled hole. Then it's just a matter of sanding it smooth. I've done it the same way for years. Sometimes I use super glue, sometimes liquid cement. The technique s the same either way.

Gotta Love Ol' George Barris for making sure all that glue attracting "JunK" got included in those kits! Ick!! A whole lot of the Barris stuff that made their ways into the AMT kits were just horrid in their styling, that's even by '60's standards, (not to mention todays)! Good thing is that it will clean up to "Pristine Plastik" once more, can't wait to see what you do with this one. It's always fun to see one of these old "screw bottom" kits resurrected with todays building techniques, resin and aftermarket parts applied in a "tasty manner". Grabbin' the popcorn and sitting back watching this one come together...

I've never used this method before. I use the gel type super glue and fill the hole first then jam in the sprue tight, The reason I do it this way is to be sure the hole is completely filled in case the sprue isn't perfectly round ( I always clean the hole out with small bits and round file first). As Mark said above, that technique works well too, just a matter of personal choice. Experiment and see what works best for you. Build on!

First coat of primer today. Still lots of filling, sanding and massaging to do but definitely moving forward...

I see the cruzin skirts are back on and the custom front end is still intact, very cool ( sorry Skip ), a true restoration of the original build, maybe a change of colour?

Well, nice to see a build using the "tasteless" custom parts, love it!! I'll be watching this one as I'm doing several old screw bottoms at the moment. As Kustoms...

I got a little time to work on the Merc, picked out some detail on the old chassis plate Also got 'er painted. It's in the booth drying now. A spritz of this, as squirt of that and a dash of powders, mixed together and shot with my old Paasche single action. It never lets me down the same with the old Testors paints. Always predictable with consistent good results. Never any "surprises". Sorry Duane, green just didn't make the cut for this one but I think you'll like it anyway. Take care guys and stay well!
