I was on the fence about whether or not to even start a build thread about this one, but I thought it might be another helpful motivational tool for myself. I'm not looking for praise or anything. Just trying to shake off the rust if you will I've been battling a severe case of builders block for awhile now. The Snake Eyes coupe has been sitting on the bench all mocked up and ready for paint, untouched for nearly two months. What's frustrating is the gears are always turning in my head with new projects , techniques and ideas i want to try, but I just can't drag myself to the bench. I'm sure most (if not all) of us have been in this state before. I know I have, and eventually I'll shake it. Well, this little body is an attempt to just get the juices flowing. I figured, the bodies are replaceable, so if all i end up with is a pile of scraps, no harm done. Gotta say, it felt good. It may not turn into anything, and this thread will just fade away, which is fine. But I've got to try something

Nice start. I've found that if I just "do this one little thing" I make progress. I'll figure on working five or ten minutes a day. Sometimes all I do is shake a bottle of metallic paint to keep the solids from sticking to the bottom, other times I'll put a bunch of things together -- often having to re-do it at a later time but it's OK. To me, the appeal of the hobby is the process of doing things and isn't so much the finished item. Every couple of years I do finish something, though.

That cab is looking interesting so far! Extra leg room I imagine it would look pretty cool with the drip molding extended around the roof, kind of like a '34. I'm in the same boat as you...I'm planning projects, kicking ideas around...and avoiding all my in-progress projects. I'm just waiting for the itch to come back. I'm sure it will! Sometimes all I do is shake a bottle of metallic paint to keep the solids from sticking to the bottom... That's been on my to-do list for....2 years now. Hmm, that's about how long it's been since I finished anything. What a coincidence!

Progress! Got most of the bodywork done. Just a little finessing required, and I still have to chop the doors. Still feeling good, so it keeps rolling. Last week I was able to score the reissue Revell 29 roadster at HL which was the final nudge I needed to go ahead and chop up this body. If things continue rolling, this will be mostly based on this kit. I have a very specific 1:1 truck for inspiration for this one, but that will have to wait. Baby steps. I'm hoping I can get the body finished up by this weekend, and then I get to do the fun part, searching out the perfect parts and mock ups.

I'm getting a weird (but good vibe) off of this one. Imagine a long hood with lots of tall louvers, a chrome grille shell, inline 6 or 8, with blackwalls and black wire wheels with knockoffs. Basically a '30s Bentley-truck-hotrod. Anyway, probably not remotely what you're going for but you've inspired me

But not the direction I'm headed, other than probably ending up black The pic i posted is deceptive, because i don't actually plan on having the cab that far back on the frame. I just thought it looked cool like that.

Right on Well, for a future project the set-back cab idea has some promise!

I had a plan to take a 29 roadster cowl and then use a 30/31 roadster pick up for doors and rear bulkhead(modified of course to blend the 2 styles) to create a smoother looking 29 roadster when I worked at a hot rod shop. The project never materialized but Its still pops up in my head from time to time.
I had also ended up buying a pile of parts from a friend out in the midwest and a 31 pick up cab showed up with them..it was made from a 31 4 door sedan originally...It was hammered so I mocked it up and got rid of it. looked kinda cool and had a bunch of room inside

Well, after a quite productive holiday weekend I have decided to make this a real project, so I bring you the Diced Up 29 pickup. Diced up because it is not the prototypical 1:1 29 Ford closed cab. Here is the vehicle that inspired my slicing and dicing. It will not be a replica, but will pull a TON of inspiration from it. In my eyes, this truck is just about perfect. If anyone has any additional images of THIS truck, please let me know. And here's my progress Got the body nearly there, except for adding the beltline molding back. First fitment to the frame now that I have secured the doors and removed the structural bracing from the bottom of the cab but before I z'd the frame And the first time up on wheels and tires with the stance dialed in. I have finished the floor and modifying the trans cross member to stop the trans from hanging to low. Also thinking about scratching up a better bed because I like how the inspiration build has side covers that hide most of the frame underneath.

Looks good! The relationship of the cab and bed to the wheels is different from the usual but works very well.

Small visual update, although i got more done after this. Grabbed the 6x2 intake from the Revell Tweedy Pie and some rams horn exhausts from my parts box. Also fashioned the bottom tank of the radiator and used that as a place to pin the assembly to the frame. I'm debating whether to unbox the front frame horns and do a couple other things. Next major thing to figure out is the exhaust, but I think I might be able to use the revell 29 kit exhaust in some capacity.

Looking very good!! And I love the inspiration truck. The only thing I'd change is the color....black is slick, but doesn't show off the '50s-ness of the various body mods (like the flares over the hairpin mounts, and the cycle fenders).
