Wow! Been a long while since I posted ANYTHING on TRAK. One of the Ol'Skool originals here! So, why not come back swingin' for the fence. I decided to start building one of my surviving original Revell California Wheels kits that was saved from a flood in my basement. That was..... 2012 I think... Anyway, moved on from that house and moved on in life. Lived in Oregon for a while, have now been back in Iowa for a while. So, enough yackity.... Time for Pic's! Just ... gotta... figure out.... how to do it again....

You went away before I joined but it's great to have you return. There is a post elsewhere about posting photos but here's what I do. Go to flickr.com Upload pix to flickr.com — it's free. Sign up if you haven't done it already. Follow their directions for uploading photo(s). Click on your photo to post on TRAKinscale. Click the "share" icon (arrow under your photo); click "Embed" and copy the code.
Go to trakinscale
DO NOT USE "Quick Reply" -- click on "Reply" button at the upper right.
Click on the "Insert Image" icon (seventh from the right, looks like a square photo) and paste your copied photo code in. For example, I'm posting a photo with this code:
BUT, and this is a big BUT — you now have to delete the stuff in front and behind shown in red above.
Now, click "Insert Image" and add any text.
Finally, click "Create Post" -- it's a PITA but after a while it's not so bad.

Holy Ricecakes Ratman! I think I figured it out! Some things have changed, and I had to re-learn HTML language. So, after messing around on the interweb and studying up for a while, here comes the photo stream. Taking some sprue and making the axle Trimming the spindles out A LOT of trimming And, adding the magic...

I'm impressed! Nice job on those spindles and the rest of that axle. Not sure I would have thunk of doing 'billet styrene' spindles, LoL!! I'm glad you did they look great!! Did you pin the axle shaft onto the spindle? From an Engineering standpoint, that would be my only change to your well thought out design/build. I've got a few of the old AMT "Street Freaks" cars that need a proper straight axle instead of the kit supplied one that always breaks at the batwings. Almost every built Rat Packer glue bomb / rebuilder I see on eVilbay has a broken axle, so instead of cutting off the spindles and epoxying them into aluminum tubing, this gives a whole new way of rebuilding their ultra-weak design!

Thanks Skip! Whenever I straightaxle, I ALWAYS use straight pins at the hinge points. I will try to post better pics of all of the pivot points. I have been building axles this way for years.

Tom that is freaking awesome. Now I know what I can do if I need a straight axle. Can I save your pictures?

That's an impressive start. The orange tie rod looks kinda thick, though. You might want to make it from smaller diameter material.

Can I save your pictures? Certainly! That's why I put them out there!

Here are some links to an ancient post from way back in the day here on the board... Holys..t this is awsome, i started a gasser build of an 65 z16 myself many years ago but i never finished it, i built it as an FX with moved front and rear axles, hilborn stacks and straight axle. your build got some serious potential can´t wait to see the progress. You really inspired me to finish my own...

If you look at my signature line you might get a hint. Just gotta work it out.

Haven't really done anything to this lately. Been busy at work and tired after, so no "playtime" for me with this. I'll get to is soon.
