The new firewall looks better than the kit one I feel. I also like the tilt nose. Paul

Been a while since I did any work on the Stude, so I dug back into it. For a NHRA legal Gasser, it needed a full front bench seat, (rarely used in the class), a pair of factory bucket seats, or a pair of aftermarket buckets seats. The kit has the stock seats, a pair of custom buckets, & a single racing bucket seat. Luckily I have more than one of these kits, so I grabbed an extra racing bucket seat from a version I'm doing as a custom, (100% trakable, but nowhere near ready for prime time yet!), but had to modify it. The Stude has two depressions molded into the interior floor, so the bucket seat has a short leg on the side nearest the door, & a long leg on the side nearest the trans tunnel. Simple matter to cut the long leg off the one side & graft it to the other: Driver's seat is o the right in the pic, passenger's on the left, like looking through the windshield. Perfect fit in the interior bucket now: Dashboard needed work too. So I filed off everything from the right of the gauges on to the edge, added strips of styrene, (& one half round), on top of the molded in gauges, & on the bottom edge, & puttied it in: A Detail Master PE gauge panel & paper gauges will be added to the new panel. To add the bottom piece to the gauges, I had to file the bottom of the gauge housings flat: More to come! BTW, in case you're wondering, yes this build will feature plug wiring, along with fuel & brake lines. It might even get throttle linkage added to the FI.

Nice! The seats are a great choice! They kind of look like seats out of a 50's British sports car.

I robbed another Stude kit for the mate, as Gassers had to have 2 buckets at least, & had to make the mentioned mods.

Other than needing a touch more putty, (upper right corner as you're facing the firewall, left side of the car), & drilling a hole for a single pot master cylinder, (just rear brakes baby!), the front of the firewall is done: Still to come is building the sides of the firewall to box it in, making front door jambs, (as they will be visible with the tilt front end), & hinge plates. I also started making the hinges for the tilt front end. I just glued the locators for the pins to the front of the frame rails: I made sure they were properly aligned by sliding a piece of styrene rod that will make up the hinge pins in them & tweaked them a touch as they set: Yeah, the tubing & rod are a touch out of scale for this, as is the strip that'll make up the hinge sides; that's ok, as I'm doing this as a tribute to that Old School Stude Gasser that inspired the build, & I'm going to paint the rod & strip aluminum, I'm allowing myself that bit of leeway. Seriously, since I am really going for that Old School building vibe with the kit, & the long out of production parts I'm using as well, (the vintage AMT 57 Chevy rear slot mags & circa 1965 Firestone piecrust slicks, both used by the builder of the original), just updated with my skills now, some off the shelf detailing supplies, (circuit wire for plug wiring, clear fishing line, [which I'll tint}, for fuel lines, beading wire for brake lines, etc), the slightly out of scale appearance won't bother me. So far the only aftermarket parts I'm using are the gorgeous resin teardrop hood by Ed Fluck, & a set of Detail Master gauges & gauge panel. Everything else is kit bashed, scratch built, parts swapped, or, as noted, scrounged from other sources. And I'm having a blast!

Sooo, sometimes the easiest & best solution is right there if you just notice it... I was working on the Stude last night, & did a bit of test fitting of the front clip taped to the body to check alignment. When I flipped it over, I found the frame mounts I'd added for the tilt front end fit right along the bottom front of the clip: That's gonna make creating the rest of the hinge for the flip front end a breeze: The one you see in the pics is just a quick trial to make sure it's gonna work right. The finished ones won't be much more elaborate, (if any), I just want to tweak a few things on them. More to come.....

This is just my kind of build, this thing is going to be awesome, tagging along. Alex Thanks!! It's been a pretty easy & very fun build so far. I'm about to get back to it, after taking a short break & then working on some non-trakable projects recently.

Since the scratch built firewall lacks the visual appeal of the original, & because on the 1/1, some braces might be added to replace the strength the stamped one might have, I tried to add both back on a way. Evergreen .80 half round across the top, & .60 half round as the angled bracing & underneath the top one: The attachment for the master cylinder is also drilled out.

That adds a nice bit of detail. Much better.
