Trying to keep this a simple as possible.
Let me set the stage. At the Fall 2020 KKIM show my friend Don Sikora II had his usual kool vintage stuff for sale on the table. I spent a good portion of the day drooling over this sweet 40 ford sedan survivor he had up for sale. It was just so cool in it's simplicity. It is finished in the original issue bare black plastic, with just a few paint details. Don also had in the display area a few projects of his that featured bodies finished by polishing the molded in color plastic, to great results.
Money being tight, I decided not to pull the trigger on his 40 sedan, but I think he saw how torn I was and gave me a really great deal on a rough and incomplete first issue sedan kit he also had up for sale. I purchased it with the intent to build my own version of that sweet survivor I passed on, but painting the body since this one had been previously painted and stripped. When I got it home, the more I looked at it I thought to myself, I wonder if I can save this body?
So, I broke out some plastic polish and tried buffing. Doing so revealed the body had some scratches that would not simply wipe away. So, I broke out my paint polishing kit and really went after it. Started by cleaning up a few items around the body with a sanding stick, and then went with the 1800 on up through 8000 grit. Then a little plastic polish. After some good old elbow grease this is where I have ended up. I will hit it with some Treatment wax before final assembly, but I'm quite happy with how my little self-challenge turned out. Here's a little shot to reveal the before and after...
Since the kit was incomplete I had to do a little parts sourcing, my buddy Randfink coming through with the last couple bits I need. Started painting chassis bits last night, so stay tuned.
