Sometimes you get ideas in your head that just stay in the background. A flathead V-12 has been one of my latest. Using spare engine parts from AMT 40 Ford Coupe kits I cut and filed and sanded and measured etc.. You know how this works, you either have a semblance of your idea, or junk! Even though the pictures of the engine parts don't show well at all, I do kinda have a flat V-12. I had no plan at first as to what to put it in until 3 days ago. How about an AMT 40 Coupe. Eureka! Well there was just a minor catch. The engine is just a tad longer, like 5/16" longer actually. Well I still have the engine mounts that AMT gave me so there's my starting point. At the rear I had to remove the crossmember that was under the stock trans location, and then shorten the driveshaft (I know, I know, it's a closed driveline.) the necessary amount. I drilled an .062 hole at the front of the aforementioned rear driveline front to back thingy and put in an .062 piece of rod. Of course the firewall needed to be opened up some, then some more so I could see the V-12 all the way to the rear plugs. The floorboard needed major clearancing as well. Next up will be getting proper radiator hoses in place. You can see I changed the fender unit as the black one was warped and made of very hard plastic! Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiStock height front axle a slight lift of the rear are the plan. That's it for now. Ideas? ?? Gary

Neat idea! I'd definitely 'box' in the center of the firewall instead of having a rounded opening. You might have been headed that way in your mind already. And, this thing needs a tri-power intake at least! You're not feeding that thing on what you got there. I'd also think a set of home made headers would be in order........dumped back into a single exhaust so as not to raise any eyebrows down at the local feed mill!

"BOX in the center of the firewall?? I don't follow you Ed. I think Ed means to add side panels "inside" the enlarged firewall openings.
Great start! I like this idea.

"BOX in the center of the firewall?? I don't follow you Ed. More like what I did here.........only it would not need to be as wide. I was specifically referring the overall shape being 'boxed' instead of rounded. I figured you would put sheet stock in around the opening; but thought you might have gone with the general shape you currently have cut out.

So this is why you were asking me about Lincoln V12's. That's a neat idea. I should have offered that I have several of those old Monogram '41 Lincoln kits. I gladly would have donated an engine.
I think what Ed means with the firewall is to make the relief around the engine a square shape rather than the scalloped shape it is now...

Ed, really?
I don't know if I can box it in like that because the V-12 is so long. I'll look into that tomorrow.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE

Junior Johnson drove a '40 Ford Coupe; using it as a "shine" runner, that's why he drove N.A.S.C.A.R.the experience; driving the "shine" !
