Thanks, guys. I hacked up an actual bed from the '34 kit. It was a little wide so I narrowed it to slip over the frame rails. I also had to remove the vertical brace near the tailgate because it interfered with the slicks. The top bed rail also would contact the slicks so I can't lower the bed much more than is shown here.
The zoomies are from a photo of the actual rail reduced to scale and angled to match the Hemi. Where can I get 1/25 ones? I'll make their opening in the bed more attractive than the square-cornered cutout shown here.

Charley; you're not having design problems at all to me it's just a bit tricky, so we're offering support, and a few ideas of our own, and you have it nailed now

Charley; you make have to build some zoomies; i've looked all over hell, and i can't find model headers; you can also make headers from solder, don't use acid core though.they can alszo bea built from aluminum as you know.

Whoa, Nellie! I used shortened zoomies from the Tom McEwen Wedge Dragster. The pipe diameter is really wimpy and they have a huge flange so I just painted them flat black to make them less noticeable.

I'm determined to not let this fall off the latest page of "on the bench" threads. Long-time readers may remember that this was going to be a one-week save in January of an earlier quickie build that had some shortcomings. This thing turned out to be more complicated than I had expected. It won't be a contest-quality build but it wasn't intended to be one. I'm soldiering on and when I see boo-boos I'm not stopping to re-do them — just minimizing them if I can.
The Tamiya fine white primer was sprayed then a thin coat of Tamiya TS-45 pearl white went on. I made* the decals shown here in Photoshop and printed them on HobbyCal paper with an inkjet printer. The HobbyCal decals have a white background when applied as shown here except for the tailgate. That white would remain if a water-base were applied on top. The white becomes transparent when sprayed with an oil-base clear such as lacquer. It's hard to see here but I sprayed the tailgate with three coats of Tamiya TS-13 clear about ten minutes apart**. Now the pearl body color shows through. I might add a couple of sponsor decals. As an exhibition dragster this wouldn't get any contingency support but maybe a supplier would give some parts or a case of consumables in exchange for their decal being seen by the crowds at drags, shows and in magazine photos. I figured that the decals would need a lot of clear to blend in so I'm applying them before spraying what will probably look like an amateur's attempt in the early '60s to do some custom fades and panels.
