Here are some taillight ideas I was kicking around a while back; I quite like the '67 LeMans units (triple rectangles)in the tailpan and the '64 Dodge fender-mounted lights. Man, you come up with too many cool options! I dig the Pontiac tailights myself but like the top right taillight rendering as much if not a wee bit more......the '64 Dodge lights in the roll pan. I like the grille rendering on the left hand side (out of the two) you posted above for the cutting edge late '60's styling you have going on. Don't back peddle and soften up the late '60's vibe with early '60's styling cues! LOL! That stock '60 Starliner grille is cool; but your other grille idea using just the Starliner outer frame work with the cibie lights is the cat's ass in my book!

Glad to see this project getting more attention!
I love the left grill/headlight treatment on the previous page. Those rectangle lights are where its at. I also love the taillight option rendering on the lower right. That's just bad ass!
Like Ed said, don't back peddle on the late 60's idea.

i like the taillights on the bottom left; they should be smaller diameter though !

I like the 67 lemans lights. Nice and tidy, and a late 60's vibe

I like the LeMans lights BUT what about duplicating a smaller version of the front grill / light assembly? The hot item than was Asymmetrical Styling started by Barris.

Thanks for the feedback guys. In a way I'm goin' in circles on this...today I revisited the 3D printed Ford headlight doors and inverted '48 Grille, but with the headlights recessed and marked up to test out the kohl-eyed look I was originally going for. I dunno. Maybe? I might go back to the Cibie headlights, but making the lenses is going to be a problem. Felt good to be doing something though! I modified the rolled pan to tuck under the lip on the back of the bed, so there's a little step there, reducing the slab-like appearance out back. I don't have the patience to design and print the (admittedly cool) LeMans taillights, so I grabbed some AMT '63 vette custom rectangular lights and started sinking them into the corners of the pan. They're mounted so they overlap onto the fenders slightly. I don't like how F100s look so narrow out back when the taillights are confined to the pan. Engine is a Revell parts-pack 427 with some parts-box Cobra valve covers, 3D-printed Weber IDA carbs to replace the previous hand-cast (slightly oversize) versions, and the intake is a work in progress. I've split the 'vette BBC Weber intake and spliced the top of a ribbed valve cover into the center to widen it. A few more plastic scraps and it'll be done. The rest of the work is invisible...glued a dropped front axle onto the leaf springs, shaved down the frame to clear the rear pan mods, tweaked the firewall to match the 2" channeled body, tried out some 3D printed turnout tips on the side pipes, etc.

I like to idea ffor the rear pan using the custom Vette tail lights and your added lip. Looks good. FE engine is a good choice. I like it better than the over used Hemi, SBC or 5.0 Fords. Paul

Like the taillight rolled pan combo. Looks great. Are you going to add some plastic behind the taillights that project outside the rolled pan? As to the front, I think if you removed the top portion of the grille (which is on the bottom as installed) and then brought your plastic sheet metal work all the way across the front it would look sweet.

Some minor progress...here's the intake in primer, with a 3D printed carb mocked up. Not 100% prototypical but it'll get the point across fine.

Well, every time I looked at the hokey taillights on this truck I got a nasty twinge. It just wasn't working, plus assembly and painting the red lenses was going to be a pain. I had been considering a '67 Charger taillight for a while but didn't want to sacrifice the kit just for the taillight. Even though I loved the idea of a single full-width taillight, a simple scratchbuilt frenched lens wasn't going to cut it; it needed a bezel. I considered trying to scratchbuild a center section using the existing rectangular taillights as book-ends to create a long, thin taillight as seen in the previously posted Photoshop, but had little confidence in my ability to pull it off. SO...I back-pedaled a bit, ripped the pan off and flipped it upside-down, then killed a '67 Charger kit for the taillight. Narrowed the bezel and taillight to the width of the bed; I'll remove the remaining letters ("CHARG") later. The front has been killing me too. I liked the recessed, hooded look of previous iterations. I also liked the '48 Ford grille but didn't want a wider tubing grille that might stray into that 90s mini-truck look. This iteration is wearing a narrowed bar grille from the Revell Dream Car Bumpers and Grilles parts pack, with the 3D-printed Opel Rekord headlights behind it. Highway legal? I doubt it. But it finally has the "eccentric muscular late 60s show truck" vibe I was shooting for. I think the '34 bumper might stay; it has a wing-like feel that seems badass to me. Feels like this build just got over a hump. Onward!!

Like the front grille and rear lights better. Not a fan of the 34 Ford bumper. Also not a fan of the lake pipes. They look like they should be vertical and on a truck. Just my 2 cents, it's your build so whatever you do I'm all for it.

I have not been at the bench much, but every time I visit, I get stuck in front of this dang '53 pickup...the front end treatment has been so elusive. So I've been playing around with it, coming up with more variations. The reality is, I'm very fond of the earlier version with the '48 grille and 3D printed Ford headlight doors. It just has that late-60s eccentric look I was going for. But I came up with some other treatments that, while they might not work on this truck, might be cool on another project! I think these are the more successful looks:

Not sure it works with your 60's theme, but top middle photo gets my pick. Looks kind of like a Camaro grille grafted on.

I think these are the more successful looks: I vote for the top one, sans bumperettes, or the bottom one
