Started by sectioning the cab and bed 3.5 mm at the body character line. Chopped the top 3 mm. I modified the front bumper to make a rolled pan and extended the wheel opening flare to the rolled pan. Made a filled tailgate and a small rolled pan. I decided not to cut the tailgate down but leave it stock size. Grill and hood work next. Paul
Finished the new grill design, the original 1960 Olds grill with 1959 Impala head light units looked to "flat" The eyebrow grills are just pressed in so I can see the plan. I need to better define the openings more on the tops. All just sitting in the chassis, so no body alignment. Question on the tires 2 1/2 inch whites or ultra narrow for the 1960 61 vibe? I personally think either way with full wheel covers with spinners. Paul
Whoa, crazy! I like it so far, very long and lean. Is the bed sitting correctly on the frame? I'm seeing some sag in the beltline that throws off the sleek styling somewhat, but I understand everything is still in loose mockup stage!

Yeah, the sag is from the cab and the bed just laying on the chassis with out the interior tub. When it is down solid it all lines up. Paul
Interesting. There's a lot here I like, but visually the overall look doesn't quite work for me.
Chopping the top & then concentrating most of the sectioning above the belt line makes everything below the belt line look awfully massive & visually overwhelms the upper part of the body & bed. It winds up being very jarring looking as there's little balance to the design. It's a pretty bottom heavy design. In scale inches you've removed 6.5 inches, & it appears largely above the belt line.
The work is excellent & clean, & the ideas are very good, I'm just not sure the end result is going to be satisfying, & I mean to you, not just in general.
I hope you can get it the way you envision it, as there is a lot here to admire.

One issue the throws to overall look off it the entire top roof panel is not installed. That makes the upper body seem very narrow in the upper section. The very first photo at the very start of the thread has the chop and section do with the roof panel set in place. It changes the overall look.
There are changes planned for the lower body area, which really I hope visually should cut down or eliminate the bill board look. Paul

I look forward to seeing the changes. And Paul, thank you for understanding the spirit in which my comments were made. Like I said, I like a lot about where you've gotten so far, it was just my aesthetic eye that got me thinking & looking.

Paul, it might be too late, but i have an idea. how do you suppose a pair of cibie headlights would look laying on their sides ?That is a good suggestion on their side and they were close, but not for my year cut off of 1960 or 61.
I went through 6 or 7 different light units, Cibies, the AMT custom lights with the chrome lug in the center, 60 Chevy, 59 Chrysler , Peterbilt quad lights and even a pair of Lincoln canted quads. The 57 Plymouth style fipped with the smaller lights on the outside seem to accent the grill cavity.
My big hurdle now it the tail lights. I literally draw a blank with every shape and style I've thought of. Paul

Any comments help, there is always a bit that we don't see or think about because we focus on a single thing. A while ago I started to take overall pics of my in process work (both 1 to 1 and models) And was surprised how many small issues you only see in a photo or after is it's painted and assembled.
I did put the cab on a piece of glass and measure to the top of the roof with the kit panel in place, it adds 1.5 mm to the over all height above the character line. The low roof scoop ala 58 Impala style will make it an even 2 mm added to the the roof appearance. The lower mods will make it look "billboard" and somewhat lower / longer. The planned paint will also move the attention to other areas. Paul
This is a good spot to drop a quick note or ask for help. If you are in a bad mood, this isn't the right spot to drop feelings. Thanks for understanding!

Mr409: The 1969 Build Off sounds like fun, just bought myself a kit for that in eBay so I'm ready to go when the build off starts! The forum is a bit quiet like many of these seem to be nowadays, but hopefully we'll have a good number of participants.
