Nice straight up build of this kit. When it was released many of us, including myself, were disappointed by the "soft", almost toylike, detail of some of the parts, but the truth turned out to be quite different, as soon as some high quality builds started to be shown. Your model is a perfect example with its crisp execution and realistic color choices. Significantly, you resisted adding detail not included in the kit and yet it looks very complete. So now, nearly 8 years later(!), it is strongly priced and sought after, I'm sure because it builds out with such consistently satisfying results. I'm assuming the German owners have the tooling - they would do well to release it again. Looking forward to your talents applied to the coupe!

Impressive build all of it is eye candy from the welcome lack of chrome to the color. Glad you didn't "add the fuel pump on the timing cover, it is mounted under the magneto. I recall the great bower belt critics . . .until they learned that early belt adjustments were be shimming the blower up. The kit is a true early rail. Paul

I love this kit. I've only built one, with one more in the stash. Wish I had gotten at least a couple more. The engineering on this one and the midgets that came out at the same time is just stellar. They practically fall together, despite the delicate nature of many of the parts.
Your build highlights the great aspects of this kit. very cleanly done. Thanks for sharing.

Nice! Looks Great! Love the fact that you resisted the ultra chrome treatment and went back to what we used to see on the drag strip with these dragsters!

This is one of my favorite out of the box Slingster’s that I’ve seen. Excellent color choice and nice, simple layout of the kits decals. It looks a lot less toy-like with the chrome parts stripped and detail painted instead.

I know Skip, it is getting real crazy with the prices on ebay. I was lucky to find one for $35 or best offer so I offered $30 an got it.

I know Skip, it is getting real crazy with the prices on ebay. I was lucky to find one for $35 or best offer so I offered $30 an got it. When Hobbico (once owner of Revell and others) went belly-up a few years ago it immediately seemed to cause panic hoarding of anything Revell/Monogram and prices shot up for just about everything with their name on it. Savy shoppers can occasionally find deals, but those are hard to come by.

Mike, I hate to be the "Pointer Outer" of mechanical issues, however in this case I will just to help out mind you. This is one thing that makes TRAK great, other eyes see the projects differently (and apply hard earned knowledge) to help improve our projects.
Just noticed it this morning, otherwise I would have pointed it out. Technically, that's the only issue I can see, (have to look at my Slingster instructions to see if Revell-O-Gram blew it).
Look at the front cover do you see something missing? Lower pulley, harmonic balancer pulley? Without the lower pulley the oil would blow right out around the front seal every time the engine is fired, plus the pulley helps retain the front oil seal. With an injector setup a stock sized pulley would work. Maybe even a cover to help keep the high pressure oil off the end of the crankshaft inside the engine.
Regarding the prices on Revell-O-Gram stuff after the Bankruptcy subsequent, buyout / take over by Revell Germany.
Makes me wonder if this isn't some of the fallout from the "29 Ford rumormongering that certain kits were bound for the storage shelves. I think Revell spent far tooo much on the reverse Engineering process for the Slingster molds to languish in some warehouse collecting dust. I think (hope) we will see a reissue of the Slingster soon, just makes economic sense to try to recoup the investment sooner than later. Hope that line of thinking is right.

Thanks Skip, you are hundred percent right an engine can not run very long with out a balancer it will self destruct and leak oil. It looks like Revell-o- Gram screwed up and forgot the balancer. I should have seen that too I work on engines all the time. Thanks for letting me know.

OK, this one has bugged me to the point that I went looking in my Jr. Fueler files. It appears there were two trains of thought regarding plugging the hole in the front cover. From my investigating, I found the methods to be slightly in favor of the round cover over the lower pulley, with the harmonic balancer pulley being used more than a bare pulley. One - Run a lower pulley / harmonic balancer pulley. Two - Run a round cover over the hole caused by the missing lower pulley, either a cast cover or machined flat plate cover. Easy Fix - The builder can address this either by adding a pulley, adding a punched round cap or filling the hole with bondo to represent the cover being cast without the hole. Mystery Solved - The front cover P/N 92 Small Block Chevrolet (or 91 Hemi) engine is used for both the fuel injected and blower versions of both engines. Hence the open hole to receive the pin for the blower motor's lower pulley. After thinking about it I thought it must have been something like that. Monogram could have done the builder a favor and either left the hole to be opened for the supercharger's lower pulley or included a button plug to cover the hole when used with the fuel injection setup.

Thanks for the info Skip. I decided to go with the crank hole cover rather then a balancer. It was a pretty easy fix I used a piece of 1/8 round plastruct to make the hole cover.
