I built this quite consciously as a Barry Lobeck style roadster, which is to say a late 80's/early 90's style car. For example here's a clearer shot of a rear wheel, definitely not pre-69! My main interest was in seeing how out of bounds the particular photo I chose was. Ironically the front wheels & tires are from the Stone, Woods & Cook Willys which would theoretically be period correct, but I definitely agree with Bob that they are the "tell" on this one in that photo. Thanx again for the input. B.

Yeah, you are correct Bernard.......those rear wheels (although period for super late '69) would not cut the mustard here. Personally, I never cared for those rear wheels........a friend of mine has them on his 1:1 '41 Willys gasser pickup........and they wouldn't be on it if it wasn't period correct. He only used them because that's what he had lying around and they were cheap when he bought them.

Ed, I never thought you were arguing with me. Good friends don't do that.

Well, there's nothing wrong with disputing something.......but, you and I don't come at each other's throats or nothing! LOL!

Purely out of interest what are those rear wheels?
I thought (perhaps wrongly) they are ET-IIIs which I had thought were a late 1960s wheel.
Not arguing with anyone, I'm just looking to get ed-gah-ma-cated a bit.

Is this one turning out too sewer dwelling or can I continue to post updates on it?

Not the brush painted lettering and weathered black paint either?

I like the brush painted lettering! Looks like a lot of pics Ive seen from the salt flats taken in the 40's and 50's.

moderation is always the best policy, whether it's rust, dust, or weathering that you are trying to recreate. It's pretty hard to brush paint some of these finishes without the car looking like it was in a mud bog race rather than on the dry lakes or Bonneville. Studying old photos is still the best reference-starting point. Just my 2 cents.
