Well is this allowed? I am planing to finish a 56 nomad were i want the roof to have a section with a lace over kandy green, then a covering of flake or pearl and in the center a tiki god? Would this be allowed or would it violate the rules? Please let me know

How are you planning to do it? I've been wanting to do a lace roof for years, but can't think of a way to do it in scale...

I've been researching how to make the lace with a decal. I can hear the screams already, but one of the advantages of a decal on a 1/25 scale car is that you can make the lace pattern close to scale size.
One of the key things is finding a "good" lace pattern to copy. Anybody have any clear pictures of a real good example?
So far, I've done some sample "scales" for a guy. He liked them, but we're going to tweak then a little before showing them to the public. He's also asking for cobwebbing. Anybody have any other ideas?
Thanks, vsrn

Well, Larry Watson lace painted a 64 Pontiac Grand Prix some time in the mid-sixties, so style-wise there's no problem.
Instead of hunting for suitable designs on pictures of real cars, why don't you try looking at women's nylon stocking designs instead? - TRaK member "Rogernor" has done several gorgeous lace paint jobs on models, using only airbrush, masking tape and pieces of nylon stockings to create the patterns...

there is also another member David Irwin aka Minidreams that has done lace paint jobs. I will PM him and let him know about this thread.

Guys - The TIKI stuff was popular in the late Fifties / early 60's for sure. vsrn Why do you think there were bongo drums in early sixties kits, lol ? Don't forget the shrunken heads! These were so popular then also. I had mine hanging from the mirror all the way until the end of the sixties, lol. Tiki stuff was there, but seemingly only among certain 'crowds'. Personally, I like the flying eyeballs today. I only tried lace painting a model once. It came out okay, but the pattern was way too large. It's not that hard to do, but it is very difficult to find something suitable for the pattern.
