Maybe not great art but I think it is kind of neat. I picked of an old RCA Victrola Radio that was being tossed. The speaker box looked like it had potential as a model display. It was pretty crusty. As I was cleaning the box, I found out that it was originally partially woodgrained. So I sanded it all to bare metal and painted the top-side cover 'imitation gold' as a base to try my hand at full scale woodgraining. The rest was painted Black. I am happy with the result, and my son saw it for the first time this last weekend and initially thought it was a veneer glued on, rather than painted metal. I used white, clear, and mirrored Plexi-glass to line the interior of the box and make a stand to set the model on. This was a spare time project over a period of about 6 months.

the model inside is 1:25 R&R '29 coupe which I posted progress and finished pics of a little more than a year ago. I just wish the box had been a bit bigger as it needs a fairly short 1:25 model to get a good display of the front and rear. I may use it later as the display for my purple '40 ford kustom convertible, once I get that one glued back to one piece.

Love to see someone's throw away turned into a treasure. Very very cool and awesome work on the wood-graining. Ultimate compliment is having someone think you used veneer. That front piece really says it all about the era now gone and the cool designs from back then. Almost reminds me of some intricate pin striping work. Thanks for sharing.
