Herbert, I've only attempted this once, and with some difficulty. Mathematics wasn't my best subject in school. On this model I've been using my best judgement as far as looking at the pictures and making changes that look as close as I can make them to the 1:1. If I had the real car in front of me to measure.......well then that would really help. Sorry I can't help you any more than what I've said above. Gary

Gary The real car is in the 'Barris Hot Rods 200' calendar. It states on the real car the top was chopped 5 inches and the body was sectioned 5 inches also. It used 57 Chevy headlights. Barris didn't build Richard Gregg's car/truck - he only photographed it. A lot of magazines differ in the measurements of modifications, sometimes even the year of the car is different. I think 'eyeball engineering' works much better sometimes?

Thanks for info. Going to try some custom this year. Yours are great. Most of the model look better than the real thing.

GREAT work so far!!! i do have to agree with you Gary, i think those headlights need to come down a tad..... but other than that a spot on beautiful build thus far If you plan to lower the headlights slightly, I would recommend grafting in the bezels/"upper portions" of the fenders from either AMT's (new tool) or Revell's Snap-fast 57 Chevies in order to get the gentle downswept line to the top of the fender - It might just be the lighting or the way it's photographed, but in your picture, the top of the fender looks very straight, compared to the pics of the 1:1. I wouldn't worry too much about the measurements provided in the calendar - I've been researching multiple customs to recreate in 1:25, and it seems that some of the customizers tended to exaggerate the extent of their modifications: While I can't remember the exact measurements provided in the old magazines, I do recall that modifying the rear fenders of AMT's '51 BelAir according to the measurements provided for Larry Ernst's Barris-built '51 Chevy would make it look completely mis-proportioned compared to the real car (By the way, an inch conveniently scales out to approximately one millimeter in 1:25).
