Thanks as always for the comments. I know the side trim is thick. I had posted (in a couple of different sites) that I was looking for Revell 58 Chevy side trim, which is what I think Richard Gregg used, but no one offered to part with theirs, even for cash! I didn't want to buy two of the Revell kits, but found someone elsewhere who offered me some 59 Chevy trim. I modified what pieces I needed to, and the result is on the model. I'm hoping that after I get the model painted, and the trim foiled, that it will look like it belongs there. Gary

Doesn't anyone know what was used for the side trim??? I can't tell from the color or b&w pics. Great scratch building, and if theres a mold made put me down for one.

Well, even after 16 months, I do have some progress to show. As I mentioned earlier on a couple of my other projects, I'm trying to get some painting done. I used a copper metallic under the candy red. This looks a little blotchy in the picture, but not in person. I haven't cleared this yet and I'm hoping to get this one and a couple of the others done next week. Sorry for taking so long with an update, and thanks as always for checking in. Gary

This was the last picture I took of this one prior to putting it back in the box until next year. I started to wet sand the hood yesterday and the clear started rolling off as I was sanding. I didn't realize what was happening right away but stopped as soon as I did. Now, of course, I'll be afraid to sand the rest of the body. Since I missed my painting window for this year the only thing I can do is to put it back in the box. And now I'm vary afraid that the same thing might happen with all the other models I painted in the last few months. By the way, all the paints were the same brand. Gary

That really sucks! What brand paint did you use? Might be best to let them sit for a while anyway and see if the clear starts cracking. You could always scuff them lightly and try hitting them with a different clear like Model Master's wet look, or even a good enamel clear which should be less apt to give you problems even over what you've got laid down now.

Ed, the paint for all was Testors, colors and clear. Best case scenario is that I can strip the hood and repaint it next spring. I'll take a couple more pictures, the frame underside and the engine compartment are finished. I took a little inventory of all the models I painted in Sept./Oct. and there 3 others cleared the same day. I'll have to get up a lot of courage to try sanding (for polishing) them. Thanks for the interest! I appreciate it. Gary

If you can save the color I still think your best bet is to just reclear with a good enamel. It shouldn't react with the Testor's lacquer clear and may just save you some extra work/headaches.

That sucks Gary. Hopefully a bit more cure time will help. I'm with Ed on this, try some more clear over the hood to see if it can be saved. What do you have to lose at this point. Also, hope the hurricane isn't too harsh on you.

That so sucks! Going out on a limb here, what about trying a few coats of the new Testors airbrushable acrylics? The clear goes on well, dries hard, wetsands and polishes easily. I'd hate to see all those fantastic paintjobs relegated to the purple pond.

Sorry to hear that but when you said bad news I was expecting you say you sat on it or it rolled off the bench! In a way I'm relieved.
