In December I received the new extra chopped and stock height roof sections for the Revell 30 A coupe kit from Altered States. And around the same time Dennis Lacy was working on his 40's traditional 29 A roadster. I love the way Dennis backdated the more modern canvas the Revell gave us in these Model A kits, so I decided to borrow his technique. Not trying to equal his excellent build, just plagiarizing the technique So the roof is the extra chopped roof. The suspension, frame bits, and engine are from a Revell 40 Ford. I'm using the wheel and tire set from Modelhaus. Interior will be mostly box stock. I also spent some time reworking the cowl and firewall of the Revell body. I sanded off the molding on the front of the cowl and replaced it with Evergreen strip. Then I did some sanding and added strip to the firewall as well to make it a little more stock appearing. Also swapped in the 2 piece radiator from a Revell 30 A sedan. I also modified the floorpan so it sits flush on top of the frame. This eliminates being able to see those locator tabs on the bottom of the interior side panels, and allows the body to snuggle down just a little more on top of the frame. I'm trying to bust myself out of a deep funk I'm in, so I'm hoping I can keep this one rolling along and onto the shelf. stay tuned, and as always, comments and questions are welcome. This is mostly dialed in now, just need to work on bits and pieces

Bad Ass, Craig! Looks like everything fits together nicely. I like how you used a stock wishbone up front and how you made the floor fit flush to the frame.
Keep it going!

Thanks Dennis. I haven't decided if I'm going to split the front bones or not. I'm kinda digging the clean look. I do need to figure out a steering linkage too, and whether to run the exhaust through the frame or over the side. Decisions, decisions

Looking good so far. I like those artillery style wheels. Real cool. Any updates on this one?

Awesome, I like the modifications so far and the Altered States roof is an improvement over the kit-stick roof. Those kelsey-hayes hihg-clearance artillery wheels are very cool, too. Does anyone else offer those now? Maybe RepMinCo. The spring-in-front setup is neat; feels very authentic.

Quite a few good ideas to steal, er admire, here Craig. Wonderful suspension mods. Gary

Spent the weekend playing mix and match with engine parts. Settled on a Model Car Garage Offenhauser 2 carb intake, Rep+Min Edmunds air cleaners, a scratchbuilt right angle distributor. Still can't decide on a set of heads. All Revell seems to want to give us are Edelbrock heads, with the exception of the Navarro heads in the 48 Ford custom. MCG had some beautiful heads from different manufacturers, but they are too large for 1/25. So, I may just try to dig up some cool looking generic heads. I'm sure Dennis found the same thing when building his, but the X member does make it tricky to fit everything, especially the exhaust and steering. Too many items competing for a small space. I think I figured out if I use the set of exhaust manifolds from the AMT 34 ford that exit at the front of the engine it should give me enough room to run the exhaust. I also mounted the commercial style headlights. Now I just need to split the front wishbone and figure out shocks and steering. Onward!

Wow, LOVE the Edmunds air cleaners. I don't see those often in scale. Looking good!

Engine setup looks good! I have some of those MCG intakes, they're super nice. Too bad they're heads are gigantic on a 1/25 engine.
Those air filters are bad ass. Had no idea they were available.
Don't sweat cutting on the trans case, I've done the same a couple of times. It's a hell of a lot easier than building a trans tunnel! I take it you had to because the floor pan and frame are flush fit now? I didn't need to on my '29 Roadster with the '40 X or my '30 Coupe with the '48 X.

It is possible because I made the floor flush, but that drop was only about 1/16 inch, so I wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference, but who knows I'm wondering if I'm using the "wrong" floorpan. I know there's two different ones in the kit, but I'm not sure what the differences are. I ran into the same problem when I built my 30 coupe with the Nailhead from the 29.

Super nice so far, and very much in the spirit of plastic precision that is the signature characteristic of your inspiration. Regarding the MCG heads, I've used them regularly on 1/25th scale engine blocks. The MCG heads are 1/24th which is why they're slightly oversized. I adapt them by putting a strip styrene in the valley between the cylinder banks to raise the intake manifold. IIRC it's .030. Once the heads are in place the edges of the manifold appear to be correctly in place. The MCG heads are so crisp and unique that they can make a motor IMHO. Here's a set of Evans heads on a Revell '40 Ford block:
