I just finished this baby; it's the ancient Monogram roadster with the 2-piece body. I did a TON of upgrading on this model, but did everything I could to maintain the "flavor" of the original box art. I'll point out the changes with each photo:
First, the engine. The "bones" of the engine consists of the kit-supplied flathead block and heads. I added the front cover and water pumps from an AMT '41 woodie. The triple carb intake and beehive oil filter are from the Revell '32 sedan. Replicas and Miniatures Stromberg carbs and frog-mouth scoops. Scratchbuilt coolant hoses, spark plug boots, headers, radiator supports, fuel lines and fuel block.

Grille blank scratch built from K&S aluminum sheet. Frame horns scratchbuilt from Evergreen sheet plastic, and the spreader bar is the camshaft from an AMT Parts Pack Chev 283. I added brake backing plates from a Revell '40 coupe, and the headlights are the lenses and bezels from an AMT '49 Merc added to the kit-supplied headlight buckets. All of the decals are from the base Monogram kit.
I kept the cockpit simple. Brush-painted the seats and scratchbuilt door panels with a brown acrylic to simulate leather, foiled the instrument cluster and added a dot of 30-minute epoxy to each gauge to simulate a lens. The final touch is the Little T's skull shifter.
Out back is the kit-supplied "Bonehead" decal and a pair of '49 Ford-style taillights from an AMT '32 roadster. In this view, you can get an idea of how much time I spent working out the seam down the middle of the trunklid, and you can see where I added the rear wheel opening lip that was missing .
In this view, you can see that I added windshield stanchions from a Revell '32 roadster. Last but not least is the driver. Basically, he's a reissued Ulrich Mini Man. His head came from the Lil Coffin's "Mr. Bones" figure. I added eyeballs made from .035" Evergreen plastic rod and a helmet from an AMT '55 Nomad. The Rat Fink on his shirt is a decal from the Revell Beatnik Bandit 2.
This build was a bunch of fun. I just might take this approach to one or two more early vintage kits. Anyways, thanks for looking!
