Glad to have the Moebius "gasser" kit but it is copied from a current Nostalgia Gasser running in the Southern Gasser Association ( I'll snap pics of the 1 to1 when I race my 55 this weekend), so things need to be fixed to make the Bill Thomas Instant Funny Car from 1965.
Remove dash gauge panel, switches and radio. Replace with B.Thomas race car gauges. I added a reverse lock out lever to the shifter and missing fire extinguisher. Cleaned the firewall up by removing heater core panel and blower motor, removed wiper motor and filled hole and last replaced the dual master cylinder with period correct single master. Front disc brakes are optional. Radiator should be small type like Malco Mustang. Straight collectors instead of current required turn outs. Removed gas tank and 70's style wheelie bars. Making up leaf spring wheelie bars and adding missing drive shaft loop. Since I'm building a Bill Thomas B/FX car the SBC got injection instead of blower unit. The blower would move it into A/FX , competing against blown big blocks. The nose needs to be a Bill Thomas / Fiberglas Trends one piece nose. Paul

Didn't realize you were building a replica of an actual car. Looked good before, looks good now. Let's see more.

A model of what you could build with the full Bill Thomas Instant Funny Car kit but no specific one. The first 4 photos in the link are the chassis parts in the first gen Bill Thomas / Nicky kit

I like what you are doing with this replica build. Thanks for the article on the funny car kits. I have built the Nova gasser out of box just for fun and to get one in the finished column . I don't consider it very trackable, so have not shared it here. I bought several of the gasser kits as parts donors and it should help me with a couple of stalled out builds. Next up will be a funny car with a surprise body and engine.

We know that vintage drag cars are totally acceptable.I figure that cooling system makes it questionable.I know it has been said before to just don’t show modern features in your photos. Also it has disc brakes. I don’t know how many vintage gassers had discs nor am that fluent in the gasser rules like the op. Maybe this should be discussed in the trackable section.

Many gassers and most funnies ran no front brakes. My 55 has been a gasser since my dad built it in 1962 and had /has no front brakes. I did install a set of dual calipers discs on the rear with a dual master when I went to a GM 632. Dual master in my 55 is a 1965 Rambler unit to stay period so the dual master in the kit could be used too.
Airhart (pre Hurst airhart)Disc brake conversions appeared in 1962 and are in the 1962 -3 Bell Auto parts cat and Crager disc kits are in the 1966 Bell cat. So it is TRAKable.
The first pic shows available from Bell in 1963.

Got paint and decals done and found something interesting with the front wheels that apparently nobody has mentioned. If you are a detail person you can not run the front brakes with the wheels. They are spindle mount which are correct for a very early /FX - S/XS build. Paul

Love the paint. Decals look great. Did you do them yourself. Steve Kanuika is a new one on me. The metallic gray on the front wheels is a big improvement over the kit chrome. Have you crafted a tilt front for the front clip or will it be a lift off?

He owned the premier East coast speed shops (4 of them) in Concordville Pa., York Pa., Langcaster Pa and Philly. He sponsored not only Jungle Jims Chevy II's but Steve built his last racer non Funnycar, the 1969 Jungle Jim Camaro Super Stocker, with acid-dipped doors and frame, blueprinted 427-inch rat motor and all of the go-fast stuff. It was a 9.80s match racer, very popular, and another rolling billboard for his speed shops. This car still holds a class record! It was driven by Steve, and eventually sold to Dick Collins. During 1969 to about 1974 Steve had the success of having both his motors in the '69 Funny Car finals in both of "Jungle's" cars as well as sponsoring some of the greatest cars and drivers of the time. These included Lew Arrington's Brutus, Roland Leong's Hawaiian, Mickey Thompson , Jade Grenade, Neil Mahr's Superpress as well as Dickie Harell , Goeske, and Lewis to name a few. He also was one of the first to offer chassis-dyno tuning and many innovative engine building techniques. Focusing on all aspects of the build and machine work totally in house.
The decals I got years ago at a show in N.Y. The nose is a one piece hinged tilt unit. Paul

Thanks for the Info Paul. Yet another person I didn't know who supported lots of people I didn't know.
