I don't visit here as much as I used to. I'm not building much anymore either, just don't seem to find the time anymore. It's been hot in Texas lately, and I've managed to find some time to tinker a little bit. (I'm pasting in bits of a couple of posts from elsewhere to get this thread caught up to today for TRaK). I saw this car at the Lone Star Round Up in April this year, and something about the look stuck in my head. I mentioned while we were there that it looked like a good use for the AMT kit. Plan is to use the box-stock 32-framed chassis and drivetrain (Nailhead, automatic) from the Revell 29 roadster with the AMT 32 Victoria body channeled over it. I took the bottom edge of the interior off, and had to chop up the Revell floor to make it fit under the Victoria back seat. Once the floor is cleaned up and holes around the transmission filled, it should be a relatively straightforward build, which means I'll probably lose interest and put it away. I'd like to use similar wheels (narrower tires up front!), and I have plenty of AMT pad printed slicks. I like the beltline accent color, and intend to do that. I need to figure out a color scheme- don't know if I will mimic the gold/maroon or not. The chassis will be black. Interior, engine, and body colors are TBD.

Spent a little time at the bench over the weekend. I glued the Revell roadster floor into the AMT Victoria interior tub, and used styrene stock, CA glue, and JB Weld to fill in various gaps from the carving done to make it fit. I need to shoot some primer on it and see if more CA glue or putty is needed. I probably won't get too picky about the floor/firewall area on the inside because it will be difficult to see once it's all together. I stumbled over some resin slot wheels that were most likely freebies added to an order from Drag City Casting (if so, thanks, Ed!). They fit AMT tires perfectly (The fronts in these photos are Lindberg 34 Ford truck tires, so they'll need trimming for the wheels to fit). I was chatting with Dennis about the build and he warned me about how high the front end sits, and recommended a crossmember swap from a Revell 32 Ford kit. I don't want to maim the frame from one of those, so instead I mocked up the suspension and did some cutting on the front crossmember and front leaf spring to try to get the ride height down. I took the top out of the crossmember and added two layers of .030 sheet styrene. The lower layer has the middle cut out of it so the spring can reach up through it, and the top layer has the spring locating slot. I think it's about as good as it will get. Not my cleanest work on the crossmember, but I'll smooth it out a little bit, then paint it black and hide it between the engine and grille shell. I sanded the 32 gauges off the AMT dash, and picked out a 5-gauge panel to add during assembly. I don't remember the origins of the panel, but I cast some resin copies of it years ago and it will work well in this application (no photo). I think I will just use the Victoria front seats because they fit, and will match the rear seat pattern. Still up in the air on interior color (really all colors), but I think the carpet will be black to hide the scars in the toe board area. I got just a few minutes in last night and after chopping up the stock firewall, I ended up tracing the custom firewall onto some scrap sheet plastic and cutting a new smooth firewall out (no picture). And now we're caught up to 8/8/23...

Good start. It's a clever way to combine the two to make a sharp rod.

Little things, small problems solved. Pics of the aforementioned dash and firewall, both of which have been modified to accommodate the Revell kit's steering column. These wheels fit the tires nicely, but needed some backs. Rather than scavenge some inner hoops from an AMT kit that would eventually need them if/when it's built, I took the inner wheel halves from the Victoria kit and cut them up. I just need a lip to show on the inside. If it was a fendered car, I might not bother. Tight fit. I also sectioned the grille shell. It still needs bodywork. The actual grille will be fun to trim to fit without ruining. Debating on just taking material from the bottom of it until it fits this opening, or trying to section it...

Eric, Looking Good! Always loved the AMT '32 Vicky set up as a Hi-Boy. Used to see them frequently in the HR magazines, not so much anymore. I've seen one Victoria this year at the shows, full fender car, Hot Rodded with a full tilt Flathead.
Your Vicky is making great progress. Love the fact that you are not going the full AMT route with it, but adding your fresh ideas to the project. Build on, I'm watching with interest!

The actual grille will be fun to trim to fit without ruining. Debating on just taking material from the bottom of it until it fits this opening, or trying to section it... "Sandpaper" section it. From the sides and bottom. Or.... Get yerself some pie-anna war... Kidding! Sectioning shouldn't be that much really. Your channeling isn't as deep as I have seen some go, as you have'nt "Z-d" the frame.

I'm finding little chunks of time to spend here and there and have a little bit of progress to show. I debated on interior colors. I kept thinking black and red, but it would be so dark... I opted for some earth tones similar to factory 32 stuff on the door panels, but nicer (think leather or vinyl seat covers). The interior is all Vallejo paints, with the sides airbrushed and the rest brushed. I intend to do a gold and maroon like the 1:1 inspiration car, and I think this brighter neutral toned interior will complement the gold body. I don't have the drag link or tie rod on yet, but the suspension is together and wheels are on... And I'm second guessing whether or not to post the underside pic due to the Revell roadster kit-stock coil-overs. Don't want to get my hand smacked by the ruler. So here's the stance. I haven't done anything with the engine besides glue the long block together and shave some of the top of the bellhousing for clearance. I am procrastinating because I'm not looking forward to drilling the distributor for ignition wires. I stripped the chrome from all the Strombergs, and decided I probably won't do throttle linkages or fuel lines. That will bug me but I want to actually finish the build. I don't want to use the optional injection, which would be easier, because it won't fit the style of the build. Will update as there's more to show.

Shot some color on the body, grill shell, and dash yesterday. The engine was painted a week or two ago and has an aluminum tubing distributor and plug wires installed. I've painted most of the little bits that are now waiting their turn to be installed. I think once I get the body done (cleared, painted roof insert, painted accent color) it should mostly be assembly left to do. I have a pretty good idea of the sequence of it going together so that the steering box and column, firewall, interior tub/dash, steering wheel, and body all play nice together, so I don't end up trying to put the steering wheel on through the side window with tweezers ship-in-a-bottle style.

Not a lot to show, but it's slowly coming together. Cutting the floor into 3 pieces and attaching the middle piece to the bottom of the back seat messed up the exhaust mounting, so there is some clearancing needed to make the tailpipes fit. I'm also trying to get the Revell radiator hoses to reach the radiator molded to the back of the AMT grille shell. It's all very fiddly to try to mock up and hold in place long enough to see what mods may be necessary. I keep thinking "once I get past this obstacle, the rest should just be assembly", and then I discover the next obstacle. I guess I am out of practice building something kitbashed. I should know better!
