No doubt, Finding a good artist is the hardest part! Even a good artist has that "My way" attitude and can be frustrating trying to convince them of certain things you insist on. Colors are especially important to me and I make sure I check before they add any. My latest needs some white added to it to make it pop a little.

... Never, ever get a name... unless its a tribute! I gotta weigh in on THAT one. I have my wife's name on my body, and she has my intitials on hers right under a flaming heart. She wears my ring and my name, I wear her ring and her name. We took a vow "Until death do us part". THAT is a commitment. Every time I look at my arm, I am reminded of the one that I took a vow to cherish for the rest of my life (for good reason, unless I find another woman as good as the one that I have now with the same name, (and I ain't lookin!!!)). Each time either one of us see that tat on our bodies, we are reminded of the commitment to each other. Now, I have a brother (ex-Marine) that has about 40 names on his body (dude has a SERIOUS ink addiction) and I have another brother that changed his addiction from alcohol to ink. He has about 300 tats in different forms all over his body. I started my tats with the jailhouse method (looks like poo-poo, but I was young and didn't have money) but I gave myself a graduation present when I graduated from Basic Training. I designed a heart/flower motif with a banner through the piece with my wifes name on the scroll. Went to Faye's Tattoo Parlor (right outside of Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri) and walked out with a brand new color tribute on my forearm. I have abused my skin over the years (suntanned, cut, scratched, roadrashed, etc), so the ink is a little faded on that one. I have another tat that I got in Fulda, Germany. The dude that did it was smoking hash while running the gun, so he would catch skin when going "uphill". I bled like a stuck pig! Walked out of there after spending 80 marks (about 35 bucks then) with a nice dragon motif "Harley-Davidson" on my right shoulder. That was before H-D got STUPID with their trademark police! I stopped getting tats after that, but have always wanted another one. I want to get a Triumph back piece or something, but I want it in color, and alot of blue does'nt hold in the skin well. Maybe it's different with dye. So, getting back to the original comment: Be sure of the commitment before placing another person's name on your body. And YES, Tattoos are art. Ever see "The Illustrated Man"? and don't et me started on tramp stamps!

I have my wifes initials on my shoulder and i will be getting my son's name on the inside of my right arm soon. we'll see how that goes as i understand it's quite sensitive to get something done there.

Dave, you have no idea how much that hurts. About 3 months ago I had a "Crown of Thorns" done around my right bicep. The key word here is "around". Seems most people stop short of taking a tat all the way around the bicep, and after it was finished I fully understand why. To say that it hurt would be like saying "ice is cold". I think the worst part was the next 2-3 days as no matter what I wore in the way of a shirt it rubbed in such a way that it just plainly hurt. Take lots of Advil before you go, it won't be to bad.

i got the tattoo on the inside of my arm over the Thanksgiving holiday and it went quite well!no color or much for "detail" but it's on there finally and i'm happy with it. the inside of my arm wasn't very sensitive at all, actually the touch up i got too was more "scratchy" feeling. maybe the back of your arm is where it really hurts, but i wouldn't know. as soon as this heals up i'll post a pic.

Cool, looking back on my tat, the area where the skin was pulled taut was bruised and I'm sure that is why it was uncomfortable for the next 3-4 days. Post pics when it heal, I look forward to seeing what you had done.
