Yes, that's a punny double meaning title, but for now that's what I'm calling this one. I've been itching to try out testors new "one coat" laquers, but it took me awhile to select the right subject that wasn't gonna require a lot of mods to look really sweetwhen finished. So, there was this 64 caddy that i bought last year at kemps. It was assembled, but the body wasn't painted, just the interior and engine. The chrome was still pretty good, so I just filled a few holes in the body, removed mold lines and a couple peices of trim. Here are the results of my paint test. Plans call for the amt 65 rivi wires on wide or pin whites(tires shown are from the new revell merc). The interior is in CSC right now stripping off the ancient testors black brushpainted enamel. I'll probably use the 64 caddy engine too, dressed up a bit(maybe with the latham blower like Jimmy Vaughns green 61?) For those of you that don't know, last month testors came out with a "new" line of laquers. I'm not sure what exactly makes them different from their 2 stage laquer system, but these new paint come in some pretty sweet, non- factory stock colors. Seems like they still require a clear coat, but I will have to find that out with further experimentation. This caddy was done straight from the can, two coats of color over 2 coats of plasticoat sandable white primer. Maybe with another heavier color coat it wouldn't need gloss, but I'm happy with this one for now.

Craig you can use the testors white for a base from the other two stage colors GeorgeC Oh, I realize that george, but instead of getting the small can for 5 bucks I get a big can for 5 bucks, plus I can spray way hotter paints over it without much worry. I do use the tamiya white primer on occasion(DAMN that stuff is smooth, but 7 bucks for a small can) but I can't beat the price on the big can.

NIce. I have a couple of questions. You said you sprayed over BIN. What's that? And you added 'smoothie'. Is that a fisheye eliminator?

Got the interior finished on this one, so it's rolling again. Should button up the body assembly tomorrow, and then final assembly will be waiting on the rehab of the kit engine, which shouldn't take long

NIce. I have a couple of questions. You said you sprayed over BIN. What's that? And you added 'smoothie'. Is that a fisheye eliminator? smoothie has been around for a long time its a fish eye eliminator/ gloss enhancer/ paint levelor all around problem eliminator I use it when I airbrush paint on anything, Bin is a shellac- based primer sealer you get at home depot/ Menard's it works well on sealing body work(6.00 for a 13 ounce can) I decant it and use it in my airbrush with a few drops of rubbing alcohol and spray at 12 lbs pressure perfect white for base coat also, seals plastic for those hot Lacquers we like.I would also like to say that this works for me, (My disclaimer)On another list we discussed dehydrators being used for drying paint, and some assclown used his oven to dry his model on 350 degrees and melted it Then had balls enough to blame me for his stupidity GeorgeC
