Blown fuel flat bottoms were alive andf well in the late 60's. A close friend's father raced on the Alameda Estuary. What I remember most is that he smelled like lacquer, being a boat painter!

Sorry but boats aren't allowed....we had a nice conversation about this a couple years ago and a member left....he came back though. It says in the guidelines no boats or ships...this is a "streetable" forum. Thanks for asking though, it does look cool!

i seem to remember the boat and hauler from a few years ago but i thought the real issue was with the hauler's wheel's and tires, not with the boat? some sort of woody with modern wheels and tires on it?
when i originally joined up here i really thought this place was going to be the scale extension of the HAMB and i really think that could have been very cool. unfortunately it's not and i think alot of really cool and TRaKable stuff will never bee seen here. i do question the direction this forum has taken when we arent allowing things like hot boats from the time period but we've got a musclecar Camaro on the top of the page as the racer of the month.

Dave, it was all about the boat. Jody is still here, it was his model....he can vouch for it. I don't think there is anything unfortunate about this forum. HAMB is all about what we do here, but it's a bit more leniant because of the number of members over there and the fact that so many of them pay into the site.... I mean....if it was like that here and paying members wanted to talk about 70's drag cars....I would find it pretty hard to tell them no. The Camaro may be a muscle car? It's actually a sports car in my eyes. Not that either of them are TRaKable, but whether it's a 1967 Ford Fairlane drag car or a Camaro...in them days they were considered early muscle....but if it was a Fairlane, nobody would even think to mention it. From my position, I don't know boats.....I really don't want to police boats trying to figure out of they are TRaKable or not, which is why they and WWII planes and such aren't allowed....it's not that I don't like them, but if we are to maintain the mission set forth here.....I just can't allow them for my own sanity.

wrong boat! LOL
there are 3-4 boat kits that i think are very TRaKable since i'm almost positive that they were issued before 1970. Tim Boyd may be a good source for confirmation on when they came out and the styles that they best represent but you have the Revell Hemi Hydro, the AMT 3-n-1 customizing boat kit and then the two others like the one shown above, one was the Rayson craft. the Bonneville convertible re-issue i think last came with the boat pictured above.
the boat scene was pretty big in some areas and tied very much into hot rodding. i wouldn't expect that 70's style hot boats would be allowed here but some 50's and 60's era and style boats IMO should be.

Ok, well here's a question for you guys. Is not allowing these boats going to really hold back so many models from not being posted here? I am pretty content with what we have going on without adding more to the mix. I don't know enough about them to police. What's next? We are going to head in the direction of every other board before you know it.

I just think that since they were a part of the 60's hot rod culture they should be allowed, and knowing whats trakable for them is like knowing whats trakable for about anything else, the only difference is the boat itself, which most that are in scale are like dave said, pre 70s

I don't remember seeing much of boats during my lifetime but I am only 37. It must be a California thing. What else was part of it? Bicycles, skateboards, surfboards, skiis, baseball....it doesn't end if we think about everything that was around back in them days. I am not focused on what was there...I am focused on cars and trucks rodded or kustomized or raced. What could have been done or was done with them. Were there guys cruising with a race boat behind them? I dunno, wasn't there.

To me where the boats are linked to the cars and not things like bikes, skateboards, and so on is that they were powered by car motors, so pretty well they are just like drag cars of the 60's but on water. I doubt many people cruised with their race boat behind them in the same way i doubt people cruised with their drag car behind em, their purpose was to be at the strip like the boats were to be at the water. To me drag cars and drag boats are like cousins. lol Just my opinion, I dont even have any model boats to build anyway, i just like seeing em, especially like in the case above, it makes a great accessory to the T Bird that totally screams 60s.
