Nice to see an X-Frame Chevrolet being built! Your modifications look very good so far and especially I like that grille. It fits perfectly to the front of a '59 Chevy. Looks like that rear end will be super smooth as well when completed so I will definitely keep watching this one. This keeps me motivated to work on my '60 Impala project in side of my 1:1 '60 Impala.

I have to say that I kinda like the red 59 on the magazine cover, the modifications on the front makes it really timeless and modern for its age, it could as well have been a factory stock vehicle that was 10 years newer, and I say it as a good thing.

I took a couple of new pictures today so you guys could see some of the things I've been working on. The engine block is from the R/M 59 Chevy kit, but I swapped out the kit heads for the 409 heads from the AMT 57 Chevy Hardtop kit so I could use the ribbed valve covers from that kit too. Those valve covers are beautiful! The ribbed air cleaner is from the AMT early Corvette Stingray kits. On the underside I fitted a styrene plate drilled to mount it to the Tri-Power carbs. All the rest of the engine parts are from the 59 kit. I removed the rear plate from the Continental Kit, so I could send the rim out for plating. I installed an .030 disc into the rim for the now seperated plate to mount against. I timed the bumper mount recess with the rear plate/spare tire, and drilled through the rear plate and the new inner plug. I used an .062 drill and glued a piece of .062 styrene rod to the recess of the plate, then opened up the hole in the inner plug for a slip fit for the .062 pin. This will locate these together for assembly. In this second picture, at the top is just another view of the body from a different viewpoint. The frame is stock with the exception of the exhaust system. I removed the resonators and the mufflers (a definite PIA job), and made a pair of "Cherry Bomb" glasspacks. I made it a point to keep the 2 locator pins on the pipes intact so I could mount them correctly later. Thanks for stopping in. Gary

Nice mods so far! I love those ribbed 409 covers, they look great with the ribbed air cleaner.

^^ What they say! I recently bought C1 Metalizer (searh on YouTube for a demonstration) that could be the alternative route instead of sending stuff to a plating service. I have not tried it yet myself but will let you know the result when I have!

Here's a new picture of the grille, ready for plating. The only difference from the earlier picture of the grille is that I added a piece of .032 rod above and below the grille insert. And now for something really new. I really have to tell you that I spent hours making those Lee taillight lenses. Then I found a set in the kit box with the rest of the clear parts. All along I wasn't very happy with the ones I made, and didn't want to use the kit parts, so on to something else. I searched (again) for something I could use. I had 3 sets of mid-sixties Corvette lenses, so that's what I decided to go with. I ripped off the stock bezels and filled the recesses where the taillight bezels located into the fenders. Then I added another .060 piece over each of the taillight filler pieces. I drilled and filed until the lenses fit, and were spaced evenly apart. After that I filed and sanded the new pieces to the shapes I have now. I think these need a little more tweaking. Hope you guys like these better. I sure do! Gary

OK, I'm back again! I finished polishing the body today so it's ready for a ton of foiling and then assembly. Gonna use the Continental Kit and the bubble skirts. Would this be more east coast with these items? My "almost finished" projects are starting to pile up. Got two done out of six, or is it seven, or is it eight? Not sure I can get that eighth on done this year, might need more clearcoat on it. Gary

It is going to be very subtle with the mods disguised with a stock style paint job. Very Nice! Definitely like the roof treatment too.
